1/24 scale Ralph McQuarrie concept X-Wing scratchbuild

I made the engine can last night by vac forming several layers to get it the thickness I needed.

Rich,

Your RMQ X concept zips me right back to my childhood :thumbsup

The RMQ A concept is a beautiful ship. Glad to hear it may be next.

I agree with Frank. You might want to re-consider doing the "A".

The A-Wing concept is so close to the studio model, if you make an exact reproduction, it will just end up looking like an inaccurate replica of the filming model. Make sense?

I am ALL OVER that concept X-Wing. I have always loved the "cleaness" of that design. I am already standing in line when you have someone to cast the kits!

Thanks for doing this. Great job!

Now stop posting and hurry up and get it done :lol

Ya I agree and understand what you are saying in many ways.
From a building stand point they are very different in design,
all across the board hands down! Canopy, canopy bulkhead, laser cannons, engines, vectoring units, stabilizers, hulls....... The problem is the basic wedge shape is very prominent in the conceptual design, as it is in the final design, It didn't change to much in the finished model. Lets face it the A-wing is always the odd fighter out, I am not sure the conceptual design would have a big following, as the A-wing never did. This is because Luke never flew one in any of the movies!!:lol To me it's a much nicer fighter than the X-wing....the X-wing never looked tough enough to hold those wings open!!LOL The concept X-wing I like over the original........but the original is just classic you need at least one!!!!!:lol:thumbsup

Stay on target! Stay on target!

I thought we were talking about the Ralph McQuarrie X-Wing. Perhaps we should start another thread on A-Wings and B-Wings?

For me, the A-wing is dull compared to the X-wing. But not because Luke didn't fly one but because there's nothing much exotic in the shape at all.

And great as the McQ X image is, I for one am glad they couldn't fit the wing motor mechanism into that shape. I do prefer the dropdown belly in the rear of the final fuselage. Gives the ship a bit of gravitas. Still, I'm absolutely fascinated by REL's project. Maybe Lucas'll put in an order for a kit. This is one model he doesn't have, after all.

Ya your right Rich got us all razzed up.......it's his fault!:lol:thumbsup
I am looking forward to seeing those engines attached to the wings!

Update. I made the engines by vac forming over pvc pipe, the thrusters are from the F4 Phantom, thank you Allan for sending me those.
