AMAZING!!!!

Howard ..simply amazing
I got a question and sorry if you've answered this before but, if you don't make a mold of this and cast it in something a bit more solid than clay what do you do with it? Do you just leave it in clay and shelve it? Do you sculpt it take some pics and then just break it down and do something else?

Just wondering about your inner thoughts on this. and whatever you do your work is incredible and I can only hope one day I can afford to have you sculpt something for me.

Great work mate!

Thanks again Everyone!

:confused :confused

Sweet!

Man, I gotta buy some clay... :lol

Do you use armatures or internal supports for busts like that? seems a bit top heavy for the size of the supporting clay column...

I cover all of these subjects in a two part sculpting article I wrote for 'Horrorshow' Magazine... issues number 5 and 6

Great work mate!

Pretty much bag it and get to work on other things... I have about 5 sculptures right now I haven't molded because I either got bored with them, or there was no interest?

what kind of clay do you use ?

Chavant... I also cover this all in the Horrorshow articles ;)

oh bless you sir... you FINALLY listened to me?!?!? You've gone and made a grown man weep... yet again!!!

thanks H... Spock is terrific... looking VERY forward to James T.

-r!

Don't get too excited man, I don't think I'll ever a sculpt a Kirk... I was going to because I thought the interest for Star Trek busts would be higher, but like I said earlier in this post, resin is a dying art form :( I don't think people understand how many hours go into sculpting something? It takes an average of weeks to months to sculpt a bust and when I only sell two resin copies with the risk one will get bootlegged... I think I might go to strictly silicone pieces and private commissions from here on out...

You could always commission a Kirk bust? I do take commissions ;)

I think your anger with re-casters has gotten to you Howard. I mean to say that resin is a dyinng art form is a bit much dont you think .It has always and will be very hard to sell fan based art .#1 most of the time sculptors sculpt what inspires them or what turns them on.#2 the cost of producing a resin kit is up there so it does make a little difficult to break even, but it can be done with good marketing and of course having a fan base that is relentless in the persuit of the next thing out .I to used to suffer re-casters syndrom but my mind was changed by some of the greats in the industry, there advise went something like this. You are a sculptor that produces unlicenced fan based sculptures ,you sculpt it you mold it and pour up the resin ,package it and sell it.thats alot of risk to take when all it takes is for some lawyer to send you a cease and desist and shut you down,so a great deal of respect should go out to all of the guys in this industry who take these risks. But just because you take that risk and get away with it doesnt mean that you can stop worrying there , let your guard down and get to cocky and your sure to get the big smack down sooner or latter .Since the dawn of the first resin kit there hve been and always will be recasters (listen to this next statement carefully)THERE IS NOTHING YOU WILL EVER BE ABLE TO DO ABOUT IT. I was told by some good friends that if i tried it would consume me and before I knew it I wouldnt be producing ,and what good is that? See if you let this consume you you to will fall prey to RE-CASTERS SYNDROME dont let it happen ,just sculpt your piece sell as many as you can ,and move on to the next one .You cant dwell on one piece for to long and wonder why its not selling .out of all the people who like your work only a small handfull will buy every piece you make ,as in the case of you Howard only a small percentage of folks who collect lifesized props and replicas wil buy 1 of everything you do and even then you may put out a bust that doesnt appeal to to even them .You have done well lately and have had run of good luck ,dont turn tail and run when you get a little bad luck.I sympathise with you and your re-caster problem, but you have added something new to the resin hobby and I think your work is great (a little pricey ) but great .I have visited your site a more than a few times to admire your work and I have seen a few figures in the works . Put aside the busts for awhile and put out a few figures what ever happened to the Elvira piece is that available ? Dont let a few scum bags tie you down Howard just move on and dont let this crap get you down. PEACE OUT !

P.S. Idont know if you still have my # but if you want to let some steam off some time and bash re-casters you can call me anytime i can relate.PM me if you dont have my #

Lance, I see what you mean... but honestly, I'm looking forward to getting out of resin all together, I think with silicone and other mediums I can express my myself better :) I really love silicone because I can take it from start to finish myself and also show a more realistic look to a piece, with real hair, etc... I'm also big on bronzes.

Resin had its day but honestly it's almost dried up. Material costs have gotten to be crazy too.

Either way, I have enough to keep myself busy :D

Great as always! I'm not a Star Trek fan myself but I certainly know who spock is and that looks spot on.

Glad to see you got this sculpt "out of your system". Seems we were just talking about this a few weeks ago!

Nicely done!
Tom

I don't think I'll be molding this one... there's just not enough interest in resin busts anymore :( Just the cost of rubber and time to mold... then to sell two castings and have one of those get recast is just not worth the efforts.

I might start up an interest thread in the Junkyard and see how many would actually be interested. But I would require up front commitments before I went any further with this one...

H

Have you thought about offering silicone busts?
