1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

There was something wrong with the laser cutter. It just wasn't cutting a clean sharp edge. No matter what I did - adjusting the axis, speed, power, etc - there was just something wrong. I should have shut everything down and rebooted... but... better luck tonight.

Did you try sharpening the laser end? Or perhaps changing the laser cutting blade might work. You've done alot of cutting lately and it may have gotten a bit dull! :)

I tried using a pencil sharpener and then a rock and that still didn't do anything! What the heck! ;)

We have a local HF so... I'm going to try hitting it a few more times this evening and see if that fixes it. ;)

Just make sure you get the right size laser bit... I know I got stuck with the wrong size and had to carry the old one back in twice before I got it all straightened out! Last thing you wanna do is get your laser tangled up like that! :D

Did you try the laser in your CD player...I know it's a wider beam, but with a few mods, it could work wonders:D

Hi Gang,

A quick morning update...

I put together the new door electrical box

I then marked out the area to remove on the backside of the door

Got the laser cutter working! I found out what the issue was - A piece of acrylic was stuck in the bed and not raising to the correct level

This greeblie also mounts to the extension panels - there are NO clear images of these greeblies so I'm just winging it

Did you use the correct laser fluid? That makes a HUGE difference!

I would think that with the introduction of Blue Ray the blue shirts would be worried?

I tried the CD laser and even a laser pointer! It still didn't cut... I assumed I was pointed in the correct direction

Well the first thing I had to do was untangle the laser... I hate when I get my laser all tangled up like that... got put your foot up and pull really hard. But after I finally got it untangled I checked the fluid levels and they were fine. But I discovered that doohicky thingamabob was loose so I had to tighten it down with the whatchamacallit wrench, but of course, the whatchamacallit wrench was set on the wrong setting and I ended up tearing a hole in the space time continuum. Well, after several hours of mending the rip with my trusty hairpin transmorgrafier and a whole lot of timey wimey thread, I discovered that the laser bit was crooked.... AGAIN! (I guess I bumped it while repairing the hole). So back to pulling out the whatchamacallit and this time I remembered to set it to the proper wavelength before I attempted to tighten the doohicky thingamabob. After several moments of sweating bullets, it was tightened and the bit was straight. I tested it out and it seemed to be working properly until I realized that I couldn't find my car keys. I think they may have fell thru the rip in the continuum I had made earlier. So now after doing many calculations and figuring out the logistics, I surmised that my keys were going to end up reappearing somewhere over New Jersey at a house owned by one Arnold Cromwell on Hemmingway Lane at 2:35pm 3 weeks later. So I researched the web, found his address and contacted him asking him that when my car keys show up, would he please overnight them back to me and I gave him my address. 4 weeks past and I got a package in the mail that not only contained my keys but also a stern note from said Mr. Cromwell telling me in no uncertain terms that man was not meant to fiddle with the laws of space time and that if it ever happened again he was going to turn me into the proper authorities, oh and he hoped that I enjoyed the lovely fruitcake that his wife had made. So needless to say, you've got to be extremely careful when messing with those laser bits. I was lucky that nothing more dangerous had occured during my experience changing my bit out. But it could have been alot worse. I know I've heard of people changing the very fabric of reality and accidentally turning their children into large french hens with as stigmatism and a craving for peanut brittle! So let this be a warning in the future!! You can never be too careful!

Well there's your problem... had you waited to untangle the laser AFTER tightening the doohicky... I mean come on! This is Laser Surgery 101. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a craving for peanut brittle! ;)

No... I untangled it before tightening! Would be foolish to try it the other way around. Besides you can't get your fingers under the gunky plate to reach the doohicky until you untangle the laser bit! Silly man! :D

Dude you seriously have me green with envy! I want a laser cutting machine and a 3D printer so bad!!

The laser cutter was one of those lucky finds! As I've said in the past, the LC and 3D printer(s) have literally changed the way we look at the build. There is nothing we can't do. :)

- - - Updated - - -

No kidding!!! between those two tools there is nothing you can't make!!!

All we need now is our own CNC and we can rock and roll! :)

It's a tight fit to get that PVC in there!
20150726_130019_zpsu3k55jw4.jpg

Need to laser cut some circles to cover the writing. :)
It seems to me that the layout of this chair (with respect to where the 90 degree PVC joints are) differs somewhat from what we can see in this shot:
whatashot.jpg

I think I brought this up many moons ago, when redoing things was much more arduous. Hopefully, the new equipment makes this a less painful fix. Or does it need to be fixed? Let me know what y'all think.
