Hi Gang,
UPDATES!
What a weekend! Saturday was a total bust! Too humid, had to call the plumbers, hurt my arm... UGH! Finally got back on track on Sunday and I've been trying to play catch up!
So, I've been looking over some of the older panels and, as expected, the pin stripes are separating. I'm debating whether to remove the shorter pin stripes and use the overlap method? Still thinking about it
It wouldn't be a complete redo - just the shorter PS
Added weathering to this greeblie
I was hoping to mount this greeblie but the Burgess Switch has a VERY unusual thread pattern so I'm off to the specialty store
I did a LOT of work on the door - not as much as I would have liked (as always). Added two interior vertical braces
Added filler
I did a LOT of laser cutting over the weekend - this piece is for the interior recessed panel
I decided NOT to include a recessed panel on the other side of the door. There would have been no way to get inside the door. So, I created another panel that will give us access to the recessed panel
From the cockpit corridor side - this is what we'll see
Adding filler
Recessed Panel - LOVE this guy!
I think these greeblies need to be raised just a bit
I did a LOT of sanding over the weekend
Primer
I think it looks the part. It mirrors the basic look and I may add some pin stripes and simple greeblie here and there
The recessed trim plate gets mounted
Adding filler to brad holes
With all the other little greeblies bolted to the back panel, the recessed panel will then simply screw into place
Getting close to sealing up the door!
I cut more buttons for the lower instrument panel LEDs
As a goof I wanted to see how small I could laser cut some rockers - That's a standard dry erase pen in the back ground
Going through some old/new photos I noticed this greeblie on one of the upper panels
Laser etched grooves
Spent a few hours designing some new greeblies (including the one above) then headed to the Makers to have them laser cut
Dry fit - there are 3 of these located on the upper panels
Now it was time to see if everything actually fit - I had to drill the hole slightly larger but...
Adding glue
It fits!
All three ready for some primer and or filler
OK So... the spray filler didn't work out so well.
Gotta stick with what works! No short cuts!
Sanding sanding sanding . Now I can add the spray filler
More filler... which means more sanding
I laser cut these cap pieces
Still need more sanding but I'm very happy and cant wait to mount them into place
These are also painted black
Remember this guy? I was going to add the original Garrard Trim piece but decided to save it for when we move onto the actual Full Scale Build. Also, the holes didn't align and I really didn't want to cut any unnecessary holes into the actual part. So...
I rushed to my faithful computer, redesigned the piece using the same mounting holes as the older part but pulling as many design cues from the original. Then it was time to laser cut...
Some etching
Etched acrylic - I dropped this on the floor and it managed to fall directly on the 1/4" round and floor. I took one bad step and SNAP! UGH
Right before I stepped on the little trim piece I managed to snap this photo
That's it for now! Stay Tuned!
