1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Personally, I always thought the cockpit was a module that could be 'ejected' as an over-sized escape pod, though compared to the one C3PO & R2 rode down to Tat, about the same size... he-he, wringing my hands....
R/ Robert

Yanno.... I thought the same thing. I mean perhaps that's why the ribbed ring around the outside of the cockpit corridor is there. I often thought that maybe if the ship ever takes a major hit in the main saucer section, the chances that the cockpit would survive is much better and can be detached from the main ship as kind of a hidden escape pod! Would make perfect sense to me!

Comparison image with ESB still showing that Rey is sitting in main hold, not cockpit in a pic newly found. Compare the white lined areas. comp.jpg

Another Quick Morning Update!

Finally got around to this greeblie
20150819_170524_zpsyjzsxinz.jpg

Now I have to decide which one I like best
20150819_171127_zpsx4a4adsf.jpg

I then masked off the front of the radar panel
20150819_163219_zps5q8hvno3.jpg

Turned it around and sprayed the inside black - this painted the interior edge black
20150819_163420_zpsqdzoh6wa.jpg

I then painted the radar trim and housing
20150819_163259_zpsbhnvcqow.jpg

While everything was drying I drilled the holes for the LEDs. These holes will be bigger than usual as the LEDs will snap directly into the black radar trim piece
20150819_171544_zpsbnqafcnu.jpg

20150819_172305_zps4qoyny5z.jpg

Using a round file I filed out the holes big enough for the LED to sink into

Mock Up
20150819_174400_zpsqhsdem5f.jpg

Unfortunately the holes in the trim plate are a wee bit too small for the LEDs. So... I have to cut both a new trim piece and back plate for the LEDs along with the the smoked acrylic cover

Details

I'm going to hold off on the infinity mirror idea for right now - there is just SO MUCH to do... But I really like how this panel is turning out

Very interesting pic! Tough to tell whether or not it's the same Nav Computer from the OT.

They've always said this was a film made buy a fan for fans.
JJ knows he will be scrutinised on every single detail and scrutinised again.
Bring the millennium falcon into the deal after 30 yrs and you know he HAS to get it right first time.
Looks like some parts have been updated but to be honest even that has to be expected, film quality is now HQ so added that he had access to all the BP available details will now start to show up that we never realised where there.

Hi Gang,

Another update...

Weathered the throttle housing greeblie

20150820_220830_zpsv2z5med7.jpg

I'm going to add a few more little greeblies. bolt together then mount to the panel

Hey Mr D,

As much as I LOVE the ESB version of the MF, I am ok with the minor changes to the MF after 30 years. It only makes sense that the radar is new since Lando knocked it off in RotJ, the new designers added a few new greeblies to the cockpit and I am ok with all these changes. It's been 30 years! There is a part of me that hopes these changes are NOT explained as to keep with the mystery of the Ship of Riddles. :)

Nah, that kind of thing wasn't saved.

We know a lot of the MF and other related props were destroyed after RotJ. However, I was told a story from a guy who's friend knows Lorne Peterson (confusing I know). That friend was taken on a exclusive tour of the Lucas Archives in 1990/91 and they took pictures next to the MF cockpit, the quad cannon and a few other MF related props. So, according to this gentleman, some of the props did in fact survive. :)

The radar panel is a beauty!!!

Thank, you my friend! :)

That might be my favorite!

Slowly becoming mine as well! I'm looking forward to putting the smoked acrylic in place and then of course getting the wiring done.

Hi Gang,

Hi Gang,

Quick Morning Update

20150823_211118_zpsbrh7gu5c.jpg

Burgess Switch

20150823_211138_zpsvrfwfwpe.jpg

20150823_211206_zpsj0sbreca.jpg

The silver paint finally dried - this is the basic configuration
20150824_061422_zpsevpulsyb.jpg

20150824_061429_zps6jzs1y26.jpg

Still needs weathering
20150824_061439_zpsuiolsi4z.jpg

20150824_061513_zpsrwvdhxv3.jpg

There is supposed to be a red flip handle on the roller part of the Burgess Switch - those are VERY difficult to find
20150824_061521_zpsuccrdy1k.jpg

20150824_061529_zpsfgdxbylo.jpg

Unless the weathering really makes a difference I'm probably going to cut a new one.
