Hi Gang,

We've got UPDATES! Did a lot over the weekend! There was a LOT of sanding and a LOT of deconstruction / redesign work and a lot in between!

Applied filler to the new laser cut latches

Sanding these down to a smooth finish took an incredible amount of time... HOURS

First coat of primer filler

Needs more filler

Although the shapes fit perfectly - which is what I want... the fit was so perfect without primer that when I moved the hinge the primer was rubbing off... so it was back to sanding down these problem areas

I'm debating whether or not to paint these silver. The silver paint is VERY thick and I'm afraid I'll get the same paint rub... work in progress. But I couldn't be happier with how these turned out!

Before finishing up another panel I had to get more rockers sanded and painted

Once those rockers were finished I could finally finish up this panel

Adhered the white vertical acrylic strips

Painted the new rockers both white and grey - still needs the rocker spacers

Early Sunday morning I shot over to the Makers Local and used the laser cutter

Finished!

I love how this panel looks - it's such an odd piece

Remember all of this?

I realized that the platforms we created we NOT correct... shocker huh? So, deconstruction took place

Much of the wood was salvaged and a new correct nose platform was built

It's really an ODD platform due to the shape of the nose cone

Looking at this correct configuration - there is NO way Han and Chewie could have fit "comfortably" in their seats. Once all the panels are realized and in their final position I'll begin to mod the nose platform for more room

The sharp angle under the 3/4" play is the bottom of the nose cone - but there is still another 8-12" of forward space before the front window

It's an odd shape compared to what I'm used to looking at!

Saving the best for last! Philip was kind enough to help out with the CNC machine! We now have a...

New Door and Door Frame! Both Sides!

More to Follow! There is a HUGE push coming very soon. We're running out of time and this heat is not helping.

I was just gonna post something along the lines of... "By the time this thing is finished, the first MDF panels will be warped all to heck" but in a good-natured ribbing sort of way. You know, cause I spread sunshine like that. Glad to see you came up with a fix.

We all need a good ribbing from time to time to keep us grounded! The panels were getting bad. I pulled them all apart and got them back inside. Now it's time to get that front support brace built. I have a short time fix but there is a better solution we're working...

I think it's because they ditched the OCD accuracy and just went whimsical! The fact that it looks like it's made out of card board probably helps too! But I still wanna get in it and go "PUNCH IT CHEWIE!"

Thank you, my friend! The platform(s) and nose cone are going to "oh so much fun" to try to build! The CNC really helps with those large scale cuts. Sure beats using the power tools!

Hi Gang,

Quick Morning Update!

Brought the new door panel and trim piece inside and married it up against the recently cut door recessed panel - perfect!

I worked on the latches - I cut the holes necessary to mount the latches to the panel and housing

The drill bit did not get along with the acrylic at all

SNAP! UGH

After a few passes with the acrylic adhesive and some sanding I was able to get back on track

The holes in the housing are not perfect and the latches move around quite a bit - I'm going to laser cut some simple braces with 1/4" acrylic to keep the latches from moving around

It seems like no matter how much sanding/filling you do... there is always a bit more required

Back to the primer...

I repainted the housing - note how chewed up the holes are - ewe

I then painted this piece red

Then adhered the red piece into the housing

Love it! I am so tempted to add some red pinstriping. BUT... I have to keep it screen accurate!

Finally adhered the 4 1" tiles to either side of the rectangular greeblie

Saving the best for last... As many of you know fellow RPFer Fuzz will be working the MF Nav Computer. He and I have been trading ideas, greeblies, dimensions, etc for quite some time. Well, Fuzz told me he had boxed up a few things for me

My mouth was open but nothing was coming out... I was speechless!

SAY WHAT!? I was freaking out! I'm sure many of you know he's also created a little Mini R2. The castings are beyond professional! And beyond anything else... this is just so friggin cool! THANKS AGAIN, MY FRIEND!

Fuzz told me that he and his father cast all the individual parts - nothing short of excellent!

OH YES! Love the shot of the EP VII cockpit. I'm not sure why they went back to the original ANH version with some ESB design elements. Either way - I love it!

Another Quick Morning Update!

Sprayed more primer on the latches. I'll then sand, add more filler and then paint again...

Hi Gang,

Not much of an update. I spent the better part of yesterday working on the PC with various MF related files, greeblies for the laser cutter and CNC. A lot was done but just nothing to show for it right now. : )

However...

95% Finished

Still need to add the knobs and various greeblies

I pushed onward to this panel and realized I had a lot of work to do creating files for the radar scope

So I switched gears and moved on to the door

The humidity is up and torture...

I would have been much further had the 1x3 been even. 2 out of the 4 were uneven... UGH

I added the latch brace(s) to the housing

After painting and knocking one of the little squares off...

There is still a tremendous amount of play (up and down movement)

Still debating whether to mount to the panel

Not a very productive weekend...
