1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

Too hot out to do anything constructive... But

I did paint the rockers
20150726_122152_zpswief77su.jpg

Found a few holes to fill
20150726_122158_zpsotrvrtbj.jpg

Grey rockers
20150726_122205_zpstm3ll7ap.jpg

Trying to figure out which of these to use
20150726_123403_zpsbokyicsk.jpg

Paint these silver
20150726_123408_zpsonnrh84r.jpg

Adhered these lids to the PVC
20150726_124831_zpsmtupcbza.jpg

20150726_124835_zps0pw4dyaz.jpg

And paint
20150726_125955_zpsazrfg5q1.jpg

20150726_130012_zpsho1qz9hf.jpg

It's a tight fit to get that PVC in there!

Need to laser cut some circles to cover the writing. :)

Hi Gang,

Not much of an update... But

Getting the greeblie closer to finished

20150726_164536_zpsrbief13n.jpg

And we move on to the next one
20150726_164624_zpsgmwbgqhg.jpg

Still need to insert the wires into their holes, paint the body, etc...

Where's Nick Cage when I need him!?

Looking good those Nav chairs! And congrats on the seats:cool

Thanks, Jo! They're slowly coming along. I'm getting the rest of the Nav Chair files ready for the new laser cutter! Should be fun!

Wavey is working with the seller now to get the seats to him before shipping them over the pond. It's been a great / bizarre week for greeblies! :)

Great work this weekend SK. You weren't kidding, the heat was just killer. I spent a little time painting up some pieces and the humidity played havoc with the drying time (and caused some nasty paint interactions that caused me to have to sand and repaint).

...But give it a couple of months and we'll be complaining about the cold ;)

Thank you, my friend! WHEW... the humidity is what kills me! It's funny, the heat and humidity either creates, what you said, total havoc OR speeds up the drying process. And it's a total hit or miss. But sometimes bringing the objects inside to dry gives to a better finished product.

Looks like your project is coming along. Sorry you've had the same issues.

I'd rather complain about the cold... Bring on Fall! :)

H Gang,

Sorry for the lack of updates. It has been too hot to do anything outside. Sadly, I HAVE to get the panels back inside the house. The heat and humidity are causing real problems with the pinstripes. UGH...

BUT I'm meeting up with Scott and Philip to get the NEW door frame, door panels and door trim cut on the CNC!

Stay Tuned!

Just as I was setting up the potato for some outdoor pics, it clouded over and we haven't seen the Sun since. So here's some dull indoor hints of the latest acquisition.

Obviously they are blue right now....

I'm glad the info on the Cobra set of seats turned up when it did as, with a little research, it looks like their customised seats were essentially a mix of the squarer headrest Huntmasters crossed with the shallower shouldered set from Corbeau. So the closest overall looking seats are the Huntmasters.... But then this unbadged set turned up, which I've just thought could be made by Cobra - so that's all my guesswork out of the side window, lol.

For me, the most important parts are the shape and size of the headrest and shoulder sections which are pretty much spot on with this set. However, this type has just a tad more depth in the top of the arm area - but with the added back cushion, as seen on the Falcon's seats, the depth is reduced to very convincing proportions.

I think the Princess said in an interview that they had trouble getting in and out of the original seats so customisation was done to flatten the lower cushion. Perhaps that's when the tops of the arms were reduced in depth so it was easier to roll out sideways.

The actual material looks like it could be similar to the original stuff, almost like a very short fleece. I have no idea what it's made out of but I wonder if it would hold together after being dyed to the right colour - if that's even possible.

I'll take some better photos at more recognisable angles tomoz.

Hi Gang,

Quick morning update! Some more greeblies to build...

This oddly shaped greeblie sits on one of the upper extension panels on Han's side
20150729_181344_zpsmqgxall4.jpg

With limited photos... its so hard to tell what they look like. I hope I'm giving these details justice.
20150729_181350_zpsmwy9gxc0.jpg

It also holds another of the throttle greeblies - these things were EVERYWHERE in the SW universe
20150729_181631_zpsg5wqzpmh.jpg

20150729_181638_zpsmog2r19t.jpg

This area is etched to accept the same shape but to give the piece depth
20150729_181647_zpsp2jakf9v.jpg

Nice cup full of greeblies

This greeblie is found on Han's side of the canopy

Goodies

Unfortunately, schedules got in the way of CNCing the new door parts but we'll get to those next week. Also, the humidity broke last night and "cooler" temps are forecast for the weekend!

Excellent update Sofa...and those seats rock for sure! I can see that life goes on at "Greeblies Central";) and, yes, no humidity means: paint time!

Thank you, my friend! I cant believe Wavey was able to secure those seats! He's our Hero of the week! ;) Fortunately for him it comes with a few consolation prizes. But he must be present to win so...

A cold front came through and pushed all that humidity south. This morning felt like a fall day. It was awesome! I'm going to try to take advantge of this break in humidity and get all the little things done - greeblies, some paint, a few pin stripes, 1" tiles, LEDs, etc...

Finally had a chance to catch up. Great find on the seats.

Also, Wavey, great job on the tank handle. Is there any part of a Vickers plane they didn't use for the productions?

Is there any part of a Vickers plane they didn't use for the productions?

Vickers, De Havilland and Hawker Siddeley do seem to wrap up the bulk of parts used between the 1st and 2nd Falcon. But over a 35+ year time period the amount (and variants) of aircraft that these parts came from is still growing. If most of the parts could be found and placed on the full scale ship today then it would be as much an industrial / business history museum as a sci-fi icon.

Hi Gang,

Time for an update!

Had to add some filler to this guy
20150801_112258_zpsrodefl59.jpg

Sanded

Primed

More Filler Needed

Rockers and new greeblie getting a primer bath
20150801_134322_zpsnibzyiyf.jpg

Putting it all together

20150802_095914_zpsjsg0qfrq.jpg

20150802_100226_zpsdiu3l1zw.jpg

Color!
20150802_114657_zpsyrh8uphn.jpg

I moved onto this panel
20150801_141206_zpsuummqsm2.jpg

DONT ASK!
20150801_163709_zpson7rbsiy.jpg

UGH
20150801_171855_zpsjen4l1qp.jpg

Switched gears to this guy
20150801_112305_zpsflzjtu2m.jpg

I love primer - except when it shows all the errors...
20150801_134253_zpsfbon08fs.jpg

Like this! ;)
20150801_134314_zpsm3adcgxz.jpg

More filler
20150801_140241_zpstbtws93o.jpg

20150801_140246_zpszaxjvpmp.jpg

Went to the local Markers to use the laser cutter. She's an older unit so there are is a LOT to remember and digest. Had few errors... oh well
20150801_222806_zpshkxckxjj.jpg

She is a beast!
20150801_201712_zpse1pkez4v.jpg

I cut new button panels
20150802_082247_zpszlwi55os.jpg

20150802_100420_zpso9tyxjlj.jpg

This was REALLY interesting. In ESB, the designers added a smoked plexi/glass cover to the buttons
20150802_082301_zpsuxsf9xer.jpg

Primer
20150802_100230_zpsmavagleo.jpg

Unfortunately all this had to be scraped
20150802_100351_zpskd9m72hz.jpg

Then jumped to Starkiller's Wall Art Panels! Rockers getting a new fresh coat
20150801_134339_zpspklfr15t.jpg

Added the transparent riser - I really like the effect the risers give the rockers
20150801_120520_zpsd73g12mw.jpg

Added the black dot and time to adhere to the panel!
20150801_135337_zpsampb740a.jpg

Then cut the buttons with the laser cutter
20150802_103813_zpsjc7c2ee2.jpg

20150802_103819_zpsse9hyioa.jpg

Then jumped to the new "door pull style" greeblie located on the back panels
20150801_122753_zpsx5bcyefc.jpg

I'm going to search around for actual thin door pulls, but I wanted to get something in place now
20150801_123315_zpsfeovhtss.jpg

20150801_140637_zpsodfpyi5e.jpg

20150801_140641_zps9ts4rfgb.jpg

To keep them from falling over during paint I had to mount them to the wood base
20150802_111001_zpsolskuwry.jpg

Had to get them out of the sun FAST or they would continue to sag
20150802_111007_zpsdob7gt0o.jpg

Add some black
20150802_121640_zpsmkjjlxvb.jpg

Along with this little guy
20150802_111134_zpsbai1hr0d.jpg

Once the paint dries... silver!

Some more updates...

Paint!
20150802_130959_zpsvtgzqefl.jpg

20150802_131006_zpsbdul7z32.jpg

20150802_135934_zpsglmq0dl4.jpg

Another laser cut item - armrests for the nav chair (not sure how well MDF/wood will hold up)
20150802_132048_zpssbcu1cpw.jpg

Seat and seat pad - still many more panels to cut
20150802_132144_zpstamt62ja.jpg

Smoked acrylic over painted button panel
20150802_132729_zpsffgo71fh.jpg

Rockers adhered
20150802_134121_zpsbpqxmdzj.jpg

Greeblies mounted
20150802_135746_zpsrnu9amid.jpg

20150802_135754_zpsoycdoege.jpg

Using the drill press, I drilled 4 mounting holes into the recently cast matte box and then mounted
20150802_143334_zpsuz5u4ezw.jpg

Still needs to be painted black and a nav screen placed
20150802_143345_zpsg9f8b1qe.jpg

20150802_143353_zpsf2f0ao95.jpg

20150802_143445_zpsjoqihwan.jpg

Replaced these greeblies with the door pull style
20150802_145610_zpsoje5x9ru.jpg

The shadow really adds depth
20150802_145618_zpsuxxzjleu.jpg

Another laser (recut) item is the new throttle housing. I had to make minor adjustments due to the changed width of the armrest panel
20150802_141118_zps4zkt9wcr.jpg

20150802_141126_zpsptnynxor.jpg

20150802_141337_zpsohueoxzv.jpg

This was an interesting sub-build. The MDF panel below the main acrylic top piece is actually much smaller. This way, the acrylic creates a smooth transition between panels
20150802_141346_zpsp2qfymfo.jpg

Remember these little plastic magnets I found a few years back? I finally got some new translucent paint - the same I used on the original glass domes I used on the first console. I decided to take a shot and sanded the plastic cover and sprayed away!
20150802_135815_zpsk45moyfx.jpg

WOW!
20150802_135822_zps9fsfthof.jpg

Two coats
20150802_140432_zpsqklykx1j.jpg

Blue
20150802_140439_zpsvhuhtlit.jpg

A few more - two coats. The paint really adds the "glass" depth I was hoping for!

Hi Gang,

Quick morning update!

Plotting out the pinstripes and where the holes go... I'm being extra careful on this panel. I want it perfect!

20150802_180652_zpsxqszihly.jpg

This is what the new button panels look like with both buttons in place and smoked acrylic cover
20150802_184229_zpsdeo8s0ii.jpg

I didn't have enough 1/4" acrylic to cut all the buttons

What an update! Lots to digest:) First: love the way the risers are making those buttons pop-out of that panel. The dark acrylic facing those buttons is the bomb and finally, I must say that your paint skills have grown exponentially since the beginning of this build. Just looking at those lights with that transparent glass finish is a beautiful sight to see:cool
