1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Did I read that right? Your coming to the SWC in Anaheim? Right on! I will be there in my Han outfit!! Must find a Chewie!

While the molding and casting was happening at home (not done, just changing tack for a bit), I also worked on the yoke again. Taking 2" out of the crossbar on either side was an annoying process, but everything is back together and structural again

Before After

I also put the skins on the yoke arms for now. It will all come apart for paint, but I needed to see some cosmetic progress.

The pipe pieces stacked (including a chunk of shop vac hose), and screwed into the steel arms of the yoke.

I had to cut into the PVC T in order to get access to the set screw for the cannon's axle. The cap slides back in and takes a couple of screws to re attach. The right arm on the above picture shows the cap in place.

The cap removed

More quad

With the yoke built, I had to cut a few holes in it to run air and power out to the body. These will all be hidden, of course

Picture those, reversed and repeated on the other side as well.

All the metalwork was being done away from home. I was able to borrow a stand-in base until the real one gets built, and the yoke, base and my Dremel moved to my garage, where the body of the cannon was waiting

The left arm bolts on to the yoke and the axle. Its skin is still screwed in place. The right arm is welded in place, and I had removed the skin to transport it home.
You can see some of the pneumatic hose trailing out of both ends of the left arm.

Time to stand it up in the boom base.

Yeah, my work area is a mess

As you can see, it is a little nose heavy. Might have something to do with the pivot being at the back of the blast chamber area. The back section is set to be made of steel, with a motor, more steel, and, um, well, even more steel.

Th nice thing about having the quad in its yoke and on wheels, besides being able to move it around for some cleanup (which hasn't happened yet), is that it puts the body of the cannon at a good working height. Another nice thing is I can work on both the top AND the bottom blast chambers, because it is no longer sitting on a flat surface.

You can see a couple of the solenoid valves dangling there. Those will live inside the shield walls ultimately. Right now it is about figuring out the air runs and closing up the structure voids

and I just had to set the whole barrel/ blast column up, to see how it would look (ok, I knew how it would look, but I had to anyway). The barrel is PVC, the cone is still the printed version, the base is the cast, and the rest of the stack is all PVC

Excuse the '60s Batman filming style, please

I had just a little time before heading to work after this, so I prepped a pair of the muzzle sides and slid them together

And, just 'cause

The lights will momentarily flash as the solenoid gets triggered to slide the piston back.

I took the muzzle to work with me and our prop guy said that he had seen this part, a twin tailpipe from a mid to late '70's Datsun 240 Z. Hmm. Very possible

OK, all caught up

Hi C,

You read right! We're going to be a SWC this April! There will be a few surprises as well! We're all very excited and nervous at the same time. This is our target audience. We hope we dont disappoint!

...I cant believe how far the Cockpit has come truly amazing

doing the Gun tubs too?

Hey GG,

Thanks so much! As much as I would love to do the Gunner Stations, we really focusing all our efforts on the Cockpit before SW Celebration in April. We'll eventually get to them... That's going to be a FUN build! If I'm not mistaken... the original designers used a mod'd Martin Baker ejection seat as well - giving us a total of 5 in the MF. :)

That good'ole New Old Stock raw alloy look. Unfortunately the other lever parts are out of stock but I've sent an email to see if there's anything that can be done. So for now it's just the console parts winging its way over.

The new old stock is MUCH nicer looking than the chrome... I cannot wait to add them to the armrest levers!

Are you refering to the red switch lever?

How is it... I live in this city and DON'T know that this is here?!? This is truly epic! I've got enough trouble convincing my wife that I can find a place to store the R1 I'm planning to build, I can't imagine trying to fit a while cockpit somewhere! Excellent work!

These updates keep on giving...me a heart attack every time:D:cool Too much coolness being displayed!

I've been looking for the Bluray deleted Millenium Falcon gunner scenes from the Battle of Endor since Febuary and I finally found it online.

Deleted scene and running time on Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set.
09:06:20 (BATTLE OF ENDOR: THE LOST REBELS)
Falcon shots start at the 5:55 mark.

This lost footage includes Rebel pilots who never made the final cut. Oddly, one of the female pilots did make it into the film, but was voiced by a man. There is additional action featuring the Millennium Flacon’s support crew. Footage of General Madine as the Rebel Leader was shot just in case the puppet of Admiral Ackbar did not look convincing.

Hi X,

Thanks so much for the kind words! Whether it is fortunate or unfortunate the cockpit sits in the garage. It's kinda cool to walk out and see her sitting there... but my poor car has never seen the inside of the garage. : ) We're looking for people to help out with the LEDs and wiring! If you're up for some fun and late nights just let me know!

The R1 sounds pretty cool! Are you planning on starting soon?

Hey J,

As always, thanks so much! The team has been doing their own thing(s) these past few weeks since GMX. We're planning on getting back together and start work for Celebration! Should be a fun several months. Lots more "coolness" coming soon! :)

I can honestly see why much of that was left on the cutting room floor. Some of those people couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. I'm surprised we got as good a movie as we did with scenes like this. Much of the beauty of it is in how well it was edited...

In the falcon corridor scenes, it looked like there was no detailing at all on the back wall heading in to the cockpit.

Hi Gang,

A few more pics from the GMX show taken by Daniel... Some different angles and lighting tests. I thought they were worth posting. Enjoy
