1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

holy cr@p! Whoa!!! Wow!! It looks real... I noticed the plexiglass... hmmmm... I must absorb!

Oh wowwww!!! The back side of the cockpit door area... She looks great from what I'm seeing! Just knowing all of the struggles and time involved that it took you just to work on the cockpit, it makes you appreciate how quickly these set builders can crank out NOT ONLY a full-size interior and exterior of the falcon, but all of the other sets combined. It must take quite a team effort to pull it all together.

Most of the decision (at least on my part) to go with the model version rather than what I call the practical effects version (the set) is based on the TIE attack sequence model shots, where you can briefly see the gun heeled way over, and the fact that there's way too much back end on the PE version so that there's no way it could lay flat to the ship, (as in the shots fleeing Tattooing and flying toward the Death Star, not to mention the yoke pivot extending into the body of the gun.

As far as the mount, the photos of the model agree with the "Star Wars Sketchbook" put out by Joe Johnston back in the late 70s. My goal is to be able to have the gun mounted at the low angle, but also stand up for display like Sofaking's.

Hi Gang,

Starkiller and I have been POURING over these newly leaked images and comparing them with original behind the scenes pics and screen shots. We're almost convinced that "if" these images are from EP VII - this is "THE" original center console from the OT. Starkiller is the authority and he's convinced! PICS coming!

LFL certainly could have kept certain set piece elements of the falcon in storage somewhere. I don't know how well they would keep after 30 years, but it's always possible. It's also possible though that it's just a very good recreation, such as when they recreated the interiors for the rebel blockade runner and Luke's home for the prequels. Time will tell.

Starkiller noticed some key features from the original that appear on the EP VII pics. We think the cockpit itself has been recreated, but he's convinced the center console is original. We're still looking!

If it's a recreation - HOLY COW! They did an amazing job. I'd like to think the original console has been hiding for all these years and suddenly decided to come out and stretch her legs! :)

It would be fun to have the original console in the new set...and if it's the original, I don't know why it was never seen after the movie:confused

ah, but there's the rub. the tantive corridor they rebuilt looks great, but it's way off in many small details.

In this instance, the yokes, seats, and console are way too close to be anything other than the originals. They're trying hard, but like the tantive corridor, there would be more parts that were just not quite right.

I think they did a lot of redressing and rebuilding of those original parts, because I agree, I don't think they would have held up in storage after all this time. but I think they're original. There are certain "flaws" in the structure of the console that have me convinced.

Good to hear! I was going to ask what you thought of the seats, but you just beat me to it. :) I know that much of the rest of the falcon was trashed, but again, I'm guessing as you are that some things must have been preserved. Really looking forward to seeing it on screen, as well as hopefully a ton of behind the scenes images at some point.

yeah, I always thought it seemed odd that there were pictures of the falcon interior trashed in a junkyard, but not of the cockpit, which was on the same soundstage as the interior. If these next three movies are nothing more than a glorified montage of falcon action scenes, they can have all my money.

Mine too! I'm cashing out now! :)

So exciting, Squeak!
I cant believe these new pics, from your comparison shots it looks like they have got the canopy/window size wrong, yours is better :)

Holy guacamole HOLY GUACAMOLE, I SAY

The words out of my mouth, as well.

I wonder if this means they designed some other compartments in the ship. Or if that padded cutout is just a new way of decorating the wall behind the lightsaber training area. Dang I want a ground plan of the set.

Not to change topics for long, but

Hey, Starkiller, how big is the rectangle where the quads yoke enters the structure of the hull? I'm having trouble getting a decent number.

Ok, back to the marveling at the new pictures.
