1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

WHEW... what a weekend. Thursday morning one of the dogs got into a scuffle with a skunk right by the back door... YUP... HE LOST and so did I! Since then I've been cleaning the carpets OVER and OVER trying to get the smell out. The smell was even inside the cabinets and drawers... The dogs have been to the groomers but the smell still lingers... UGH... I did manage to get some things done. Heck, I can only be in the house for so long. Anywho...

While the laser cutter was busy do its job, Scott and I got started on our Astromechs

We stacked the 3 R2s on top of each other... we think this is the approx. size of a single engine from an XWing fighter

Now back to all these LED button panels and various greeblies...

These greeblies will go on the overhead panel on Han's side

My house smells... ;)

More to follow!

Great progress Sofaking. Sorry you have to deal with that skunk smell. You know some gas and a match will fix that right up for you. LOL

Woah, this is the first I heard about you building an astromech! Awesome! Will he be Falcon themed? I'd love to see what an astromech would look like if it was owned by Han Solo...

fantastic progress, neat and neat as always,
but did i miss something what are the astromechs for? an xwing engine, what else are you making there? :)

I always enjoy watching this awesome project!

If for Episode 7 they had used your Falcon, Harison wouldn't have had his broken leg (or ankle) :)

Easily still one of the best build threads on the site! The attention to detail, sweat and love that is going into this project still blows my mind.

Hi P,

Thank you for the very kind words. I'm trying to be as accurate as possible. As always, there are just some things I can't see so I have to make it up as I go. Hopefully can get most of it right. :)

These totally remind me of the top of an overhead projector (upside down, of course)

Hi S,

We tossed a bunch of ideas around as to what they might be and it just made sense to laser cut the trays. Now we have the file to make many many more! :)

You're going so fast in progress that You probably did this in 1/4 of the time You would had spent on this a couple of months ago, I guess!:D

Alberto

Hi A,

The laser cutter has made ALL the difference in the world. It has definitely changed the way I approach the build. :)

Great progress this weekend -you're a machine ;)

Sorry to hear about the skunk, yikes.

Thank you my friend! The machine is the laser cutter! She's doing a bang up job so far. Those LED boxes are going to be the death of me. I can't wait until I can hand them off! And I think the 3000+ LED arrived!

The skunk! It has been an epic battle so far! But the stink is slowly getting better... UGH...

Hi M,

The gang decided to go ahead and do a group build just for fun. Not sure how fast or slow we will be building them (I do have a few projects going on at the moment). I've decided to do a grey body with silver and black details - I guess it could be considered a MF themed Astromech? Scott is building an R5 and I'm not sure what the other guys are doing. :)

Hi S,

Thanks much! I'm trying VERY hard to be as true to the original as I can. Fingers crossed of course. You didn't miss anything with the astromechs. The group just decided to jump in and build our own - along with everything else we're doing... Scott and I are actually looking at a full scale snowspeeder (later down the road) when I found a pic of Harrison Ford sitting behind the XWing. One engine alone was HUGE! I decided to stack the R2 bodies to give us an idea how big the actual 1:1 scale XWing is/was. :)

Sorry for the confusion... However, Scott and I are planning a SW based video game to accompany to MF build. We're not sure which SW arcade games it will have, but the cabinet is going to be something really special! No details yet. Scott and I are still working out the basic cabinet dimensions and what material to use. And yes, it will be VERY Star Wars-E and tie in an element from ESB. :)

I thought they smelt bad on the outside :)

They Do! They really Do... ;)

Thanks so much, JKNO! I wish they had used my project as well. I tried to tell them... :)

Hi Gang,

What brand of paint and primer are you using for these acrylic greebles?

http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/...sole Build079/20140708_202403_zps7e9edd39.jpg

Hi Red,

I'm using the KILZ primer for the acrylic - it sets up really well and takes any spray paint. Any greeblie that I'm painting silver is first painted a flat black using Krylon Flat Black (I grabbed a gloss by mistake) then Rust-Oleum's Silver Metallic Finish. I've had very good results with this combo.

Thanks! I'm gonna have to test those out on my plastic and resin projects.

NOTE: You have to let the silver dry for a good period of time before REALLY handling it. Although it leaves a great finish, it is prone to finger prints. Also, unless someone has a solution, it does NOT accept a clear coat at all. Those are the only two negatives. Hope this helps. :)

The box full of light looks like a coral reef or something :)

Yeah... I think it looks cool too. :D
