Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I wonder...
How long do you think the Lucas prop department had to build their first Falcon cockpit? Maybe they had about 6 guys working 5 days a week for a month?

If that. I'd guess much less.

To be fair it's quicker to make something from scratch than to try and screen match it.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

You're lucky, you can use the kitchen table for a workbench. I'm not allowed.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Unfortunately no progress today... rain has moved in... But that's ok. It gives me time to rethink how I'm going to build the actual door.

Stay Tuned!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Be honest, how many hours a day do you spend sitting in the cockpit quoting lines from the film? :lol

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I can really appreciate all the time and effort you are doing. Outstanding!!!!

SofaKing01 here (aka Greg). After many years of looking at all the great builds I decided to become a member with the idea that I would tackle something "simple" like a 1/48th X-Wing build. Having built and blown up models as a kid... my 30+ year break was over. Everyone here had inspired me to shake the dust off and get back to building. And for that I thank you all.
That was post #3. I found this forum today, after seeing some of Adam Savage's pod cast vids on youtube. It really is totally insane (as in "amazingly insane" :D ) to see someone with a vague idea of building a simple model go on to produce this amazing piece of work.

I am truly blown away by it. :thumbsup

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

By my slightly trained eye, that looks pretty good!

You might want a second opinion though.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I just keep waiting for it to fly...

Wouldn't that be awesome?! :) I'm surprised no one has called shotgun?????

NICE WORK! How fast do you think she will go, when she's done? (Possible answer: as fast as she will go downhill , on casters if it gives you anymore grief!) Just kidding...I hope. Can't wait to see the finish. Just a thought...Have you considered rear projection against the cock pit windows showing the star blur effect at the jump to light speed? I know it's an expense but how cool would that be? Alternative would be a static poster of a star field and digital sound effect from the movie where Chewie has to effect repairs and it sounds like a dying washing machine grinding to a halt. Just food for the imagination.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for checking out the project! The plan right now is to allow folks to have their pics taken while sitting in the cockpit. While a rear projection would be friggin AWESOME, it would probably wind up just getting in the way... But still a GREAT idea!

As far as her speed... She'll do point 5... miles per hour in a good head wind, down hill... :)

Seeing updates to this beauty is one of the highlights of my day. Thanks for sharing!

Hi YodaMann,

Thank you for the very kind words and taking the time to visit! :)

Everytime I see something in your driveway I think of a kid riding his bike and glancing into an open garage door to see that cockpit! he'd probably be slack-jawed and hit a parked car ( I would ) looking great.

BTW My wife thinks the taxi idea is great, as long as its a functional street legal car .

Our vehicle shopping parameters are now geared towards body style, the conversion will be a long process (as you know)

Hey Hey BD,

Funny you mention that... New neighbors just moved in and he brought over his nephew (8 yrs old) and intruduced himself. Unfortunately my phone was charging but the little guy was in AWE... he was carefully flipping switches, working the throttles, etc... I could hear the faint sound of laser blasts and engine noises - it was AWESOME! I really wish I had the camera but I didn't want to break his concentration. :)

GREAT NEWS on the Taxi! Where are you on the planning stages? :)

Every time I look at this I am Humbled... and a bit jealous.

Hey 13,

As always, thank you for the very kind words. I am SO glad to be finished with these side panels. I still have to create a support piece for when the canopy is installed - but the hard part is OVER!

I was wondering what the tips and tricks or lessons learned are for sucessfully building the panels.

Hey Oldman,

Trial and Error and an incredible amount of patience. Also... as I have been the continual victim - ALWAYS measure, measure, measure, measure... Was there anything specific you wanted to know? I'll do my best to answer... :)

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!! Looking more awesome by the minute.

Thank you, Sir! I am SO happy to have finally put these panels behind me!

I wonder... How long do you think the Lucas prop department had to build their first Falcon cockpit? Maybe they had about 6 guys working 5 days a week for a month?

See below :)

If that. I'd guess much less. To be fair it's quicker to make something from scratch than to try and screen match it.

AGREED! I couldn't have said it better! I could have blasted through these panels placing random pinstripes, greeblies, switches, etc... The time would have probably been cut in half had it not been for the constant measuring. Plus, there was a team of guys working non-stop.

I can really appreciate all the time and effort you are doing. Outstanding!!!!

Hi Cary,

Thank you for taking the time to post a comment and for the very kind words. You guys / gals really inspire and keep me going! :)

Hi C,

WOW... Thank you so much. That really means a lot. I guess all those years watching HGTV and the DIY Channel with various GFs really paid off... ;) Of course, I was only watching the commercials! Thanks again for the very kind compliment.

By my slightly trained eye, that looks pretty good! You might want a second opinion though.

Hey Yoda,

In regards to the seats, they are pretty close. I'm not sure they're wide enough. But any seat behind the console would look pretty COOL! :) I'm going to continue my search...

"It's not my fault!"

No Light Speed?

wow! looks great!

Hi M,

Thanks so much! Now were in the home stretch!

Just wanted to thank everybody for all the very kind words and compliments! You guys/gals have been awesome! :) As always... More to Follow!

Hey Gang... I JUST realized something... unless I plan to create the extension panels from the ESB version... I think I'm done with all the pin striping!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

As I begin to move toward the seats... does anybody have ANY idea how they created the base and the mounts/tracks?
