1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I'm beginning to wonder how many times I'm going to have to rebuild these side walls... I'm putting my skills into serious question!

Maybe you're right. You should start all over and give me the current build of the cockpit. :D

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well I found the error with the two side panels. And as much as I hate to admit it... I have to recreate 1 of the panels... I side is shorter than the other... I think god is angry at me, my friends...

So this will be panel #5... UGH...

I think you should scrap the entire build and start over just to be carefully, just to make sure you didn't miss anything ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

A little bit of AWESOME news! Starkiller just mailed me the 3D printed parts for the console - the throttle greeblies and several near identical (from the original prop) dome panel lights!!! I'm going to have the bezels chromed and attempt to make molds of everything! :) I'm HAPPY!

Throttle Greeblie (this part shows up ALL over the MF)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Glad you got them ok! looks really great on the console, even if I say so.

Have you been able to lock the domes onto the bezels? It's damned difficult, but it's possible. I would recommend a bit of filing before you do any casting. The problem was that when I was designing them I thought 1/32nd of an inch was a great way to make the parts snug, but not unmovable. Turns out 1/32nd of an inch makes more sense in a CAD program than it does in reality...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Everything looks amazing!!!!! It's those small steps we take toward screen accuracy I really enjoy! I'm really excited!

I noticed how tight the fit was on the lenses. I'm going to file them down slowly until they fit nice and snug! I'm hoping that when they are chromed, they can mask off that area...

Again - AMAZING JOB!!!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

There's the icing on that thar cake! Great work all round on them greeblies, the under-cut on the lens bezels looks spot on.

Yeah... you might be on to something... Can you imagine just tossing it to the curb... GASP!

That's two... If I get a 3rd request I'll just have to cave to public pressure and trash the entire project and start over...

one word. "AWESOME"

Hi Z,

Thanks much! Things just got a whole lot more interesting with the addition of these newest greeblies!

You are a God amongst Star Wars fans.... Looks amazing.

Hi SJ,

Thank you very much... I truly appreciate the kind words... That's the ultimate compliment. :) Thank you!

WAVEY! Pretty cool, huh? It's even better holding the part in my hand! I know it's silly, but it gets me one step closer to the original part the designers used! Starkiller did a FANTASTIC job on the lenses! I cannot wait to get them chromed! Both Blackbeard and Starkiller deserve kudos on the throttle greeblie! :)

Door Frame!!!!!

I used a 1X10 for both the top and the bottom and then 4 1X4s for the sides leaving a space for the door to slide - still not sure about the slider mechanism

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

This is coming along really well. I so wish I could go through the screen and just start playing with all those switches... so many buttons!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

UPDATES!!!

The door frame is really coming along! I wound up having to change the main configuration of the frame. I changed out the front vertical 1x4s for 1x2s. This allowed depth to add the padding... I also have to remove a little of the top panel as well... no biggie

UGH... More panels...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Really finishes the look to have the door there!

I agree! Thanks! Considering that fact that I am totally winging it... I'm really happy with the way it's turning out. I made a few very minor design changes - I don't think anybody (I know who will notice - LOL) will will really notice what I did. Lot's of sanding ahead! And then the door...

I have to admit, those side panels were killing me. I really felt like giving up. But this has definately put that fire back under my butt :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

SK, this is incredible, that door is soooo :cool! keep at it, I'm sure you are inspiring many prop builds by sharing this. I know it's inspired me to move forward on some daunting projects. If the MF can be built in AL, why can't Korben's taxi be built in IL? (thats what I'm telling my wife ;) ) Thanks again for sharing, this thread is my 1st stop every morning :D

Hey BD,

Thanks so much for VERY kind words! I never thought I would have a 1:1 scale MF Cockpit in my garage! :) I have to admit, the door was really fun to make. I can't until I can start adding paint and greeblies!

And you better get started on Korben's Taxi! That would be an amazing build! Are you seriously considering it or has the decision already been made? If not... Remember, it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission!

Thanks again! I'll be doing some sanding and more cutting when I get home this afternoon. The days are getting longer - more build time!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Door shape looks good... Seeing as you're never going to park your car in the garage, you should also build a tiny piece of the hall behind the cockpit, so that you can see the hall when the door is open.

It's funny you mention that... That's how Steve Starkiller started his 3D build of the cockpit... And then he added the back hallway... then the cargo hold... then the quads... :)

I have given it thought... but I think I'm going to do everything I can to refrain from building the back hall. It isn't just the back hall. There is a good 3-5 feet of more "cockpit tube" before the angle of the hallway starts...

But if I have to! ;)
