1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Quick morning update! This appears to be the LAST of the filler... Next stop... paint and pinstripe!

After ALL the filler I added before you would think...

Why are using plywood to skin these with? If you used 1/4" masonite all you'd have to do is prime and paint. No filler needed. Seems like a lot of excess work. I think it's cheaper than plywood to.

and that's before I got to the panels!!!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Its pouring outside... But I was able to get a few coats added to the lower side panels. I'm hoping these dry soon so I can begin pinstriping!

I'm only painting the top half. There is a small shelf about a foot down that will cover most of the lower panel

Hoping these last few layers will cover the wood grain

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looks great!!

I hope to see more old-school Star Wars tech like this in Episode 7, but rumor has it that one of Han's latest modifications in the new movie will be to consolidate all of the Falcon's controls onto an iPad-like device ................................. (early April Fools!)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I think you will never use plywood again .... I've read about coating plywood with emulsion paint / dispersion paint to cover the woodgrain..

It's much lighter than MDF and there is a little more effort involved... so... yeah... I think you're right...

Long time stalker, first time poster... Considering what you plan to do with it, I would definitely cover the back panels. Maybe with a solid black piece of paneling. Wouldn't have to get crazy with it by filling and sanding but it would leave more to the imagination for your folks getting their pics taken in it. Maybe also only attach it with a few screws, to allow access in the event you need to change bulbs and what not. Awesome job man!!

Hi R,

Thanks for the very kind words. The original plan was to cover it with a black sheet but I think that would look unfinished. I think a back panel that would resemble the interior would look really cool - still considering the options. But yes... there would definately have to be access to all the wiring and bolts.

You know it wont stop at a cockpit, next comes the rest of a falcon wink wink

I know... that's what I'm afraid of... LOL

Hi TK,

I've never looked into it... I'll give that a look! Thanks!

Hi W,

Thanks! I CANNOT wait to get those greebs in my hand! I'll be creating a mold for the throttle greeblie - can't have too many of those!

I don't know that i have seen a more dedicated build . . . EVER!

Thank you, my friend! I don't know about that. Your room kicks serious butt! :)

NO NO NOOOOOOOO ;) I really hope JJA treats this next film with TLC...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high on the paint filling in the wood grain on that panel, Sofa. Paint as you likely know is not a good filler...at all. No matter how much you put on. Looks great when it's wet and drying but the next day it's often terrible looking. Learned it many times and am still learning it.

If you want it smooth I bet you're gonna need to patch it. Throw a load of patch on it and with your best and finest straight edge, run it in removing the excess. Dry and sand. Two passes probably needed I would guess?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Another light sanding, some very minor filling and one/two more coats of paint and the panels should be good to go. No pics this morning - I'll take them when I get home from work. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I was counting the holes... because I have that kind of time... Only 35 more switches for this panel... And then another 290+ to go...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I believe I have found an error in the side wall pinstriping... I may have measured wrong. After looking at the picture more carefully, something is off and I won't know until I get home and take measurements... UGH... Not sure how I'm going to fix or if I even should...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well... I took all the measurements and everything seems fine... The panels are the same, the measurements are the same BUT something is NOT right. But again, everything lines up... Can you look at these pics and find the confusion?

Sorry for the bad photos

Again... all the measurements line up and there are no bad angles, bad measures, etc...

VERY VERY ODD. I measured 20+ times and everything seems fine...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I woulnd't worry about it. I've long thought the sidewalls had different pinstriping, but couldn't reference it exactly. It will add character.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Thanks... I know I shouldn't worry about it... but it's that feeling of not knowing that's going to bug me! lol

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well I found the error with the two side panels. And as much as I hate to admit it... I have to recreate 1 of the panels... I side is shorter than the other... I think god is angry at me, my friends...

So this will be panel #5... UGH...
