Haha, the micro-Tardis is a blast!

Having built my fair share of Airfix kits in my day, I am hugely impressed by your micro-greebly parts!

Hey FF,

The Tardis is for a good friend of mine. Like many projects I've had to push it aside and she is NOT happy with me! ;)

I love the laser cutter. Her ability to cut such fine details (when the settings are correct) still amazes me. I love pulling those perfect parts from the bed. Always puts a smile on my face.

Great update Greg; love the fact that you can judge the scale better comparing it to your hand size (somewhat);)(y)

Thanks, J!

I'm glad the videos are visually helping with the scale of the different projects. There are LOTS more coming to include the Nav Computer and probably a 1/4 and 1/6 gunner station! Why? Why not! ;)

Iz.... these pics are amazing! The blue and white tiles and pinstripes pull everything together. BRAVO, my friend!

I love the maintenance panel!!!

Thanks, K! I was hoping to get some work done this weekend but a flooded master bath prevented me doing anything away from the house. But that's ok. Despite my exhaustion, I got the video done and posted. I have a 3 day weekend coming up and I'll be focusing on the maint panel. :)

Loving the videos you're taking the time to make and share now! Really nice to see your workflow in action. Also, really goes to show just how big quarter scale still is. Anyone with dreams of a full Falcon even at that scale better have some property set aside... Just the cockpit it huge.

Hey ST,

Thanks so much! Glad you're enjoying the vids. I'm trying to find right balance between posting to the RPF and what to show in the video. Dont want to show too much on the RPF since the images usually go up first. Hopefully its been a equal balance.

The 1/4 scale is 28 inches wide! That's considerably smaller than the full scale but HUGE when compared to other scale models.

I meant the whole Falcon at that scale. Seeing that cockpit, my mind is guessing the whole thing would be the size of my 2 car garage.

And for what it's worth, I think you're doing a great job with how much you share. I think most of us aren't too partial to HOW you share just so long as we all get to follow along with this amazing project!

Amazing work! Really detailed and realistic. Looks better than the real one lol. Any stl. files available ?

Hi Gang,

Time for that "End of the Weekend Update" FINALLY!

My apologies for the long wait... things have been crazy! Things might get crazier within the next few months as I will be moving so I'll be away from the projects and from the computer. Anywho!

I worked on the 1/4 scale lower nose section by adding more supports

IMG_20190120_112208_zps5pafg9ja.jpg

I was ALWAYS disappointed with how this nose section turned out. As I slowly introduce kits of the cockpit I found myself in the position to having to redesign the nose. So, I hunkered down and DID IT! Using some scrap MDF I cut the first round of test cuts
IMG_20190120_121052_zpskex6a0ad.jpg

This version uses the more sturdy 1/4" MDF - not the very versatile but thin 1/8" MDF

So far so good
IMG_20190120_125052_zps9xeybllw.jpg

OK, time to get serious! I used the rest of the scrap MDF and went final!

IMG_20190120_131637_zpsisvinqpi.jpg

I added a LOT of beef to the supports
IMG_20190120_145034_zpsrt3aipoa.jpg

SOLID as a rock!

Part II on the way

Part II: A Change of Scenery

I decided to challenge myself and see if I could create a 1/12th version of the console. I've received a LOT of requests and inquiries re: a 1/12th console so I decided to once again jump in and do it!

Basic Kit Panel - 1/16th Acrylic (actual kit will probably be 1/16th MDF)

Clear acrylic

IMG_20190119_102920_zpsz76cqoqr.jpg

I scaled down the working 1/6th scale console to 1/12th - it was just a matter of dividing everything in half which made it REALLY SIMPLE!
IMG_20190119_102926_zpsftgkgt23.jpg

But I very quickly realized that I really needed to add more tabs to help align the parts

IMG_20190119_115845_zpsqmylgjnq.jpg

As you can see there is going to be a LOT of filling and sanding to do

Part IV: A Console Takes Shape

What I thought I could knock out in a weekend was "technically" correct. I built the console and cut all the greeblies in a day but the filler and primer took forever to dry due to the cold... ugh... But it was still a lot of fun!

Instrument panels get their guide plates

It was really amazing how well everything fit together being scaled in half from the 1/6th version - all the tabs aligned!

MMMMM primer

I had to add a thin sheet of styrene to the top instrument panel to close up a gap between the panel and the body
