Did some work on the NAV Chairs. Added leather to the seat cushions. Also a comparison shot next to the earlier version of my PLA 3D print of the NAV chair.

I meant the whole Falcon at that scale. Seeing that cockpit, my mind is guessing the whole thing would be the size of my 2 car garage.

And for what it's worth, I think you're doing a great job with how much you share. I think most of us aren't too partial to HOW you share just so long as we all get to follow along with this amazing project!

    Hi Gang,

Time for that "End of the Weekend Update" FINALLY!

My apologies for the long wait... things have been crazy! Things might get crazier within the next few months as I will be moving so I'll be away from the projects and from the computer. Anywho!

I worked on the 1/4 scale lower nose section by adding more supports
    IMG_20190120_105413_zpslxqux7ok.jpg

    IMG_20190120_112208_zps5pafg9ja.jpg

I was ALWAYS disappointed with how this nose section turned out. As I slowly introduce kits of the cockpit I found myself in the position to having to redesign the nose. So, I hunkered down and DID IT! Using some scrap MDF I cut the first round of test cuts
    IMG_20190120_121052_zpskex6a0ad.jpg

This version uses the more sturdy 1/4" MDF - not the very versatile but thin 1/8" MDF
    IMG_20190120_121057_zpsduaitcfi.jpg

    IMG_20190120_121105_zps83flgosm.jpg

    So far so good
    IMG_20190120_125052_zps9xeybllw.jpg

OK, time to get serious! I used the rest of the scrap MDF and went final!
    IMG_20190120_131045_zpsfcc1musa.jpg

    IMG_20190120_131637_zpsisvinqpi.jpg

I added a LOT of beef to the supports
    IMG_20190120_145034_zpsrt3aipoa.jpg

    SOLID as a rock!
    IMG_20190120_145049_zpsg1x58lqw.jpg

Part II: A Change of Scenery

I decided to challenge myself and see if I could create a 1/12th version of the console. I've received a LOT of requests and inquiries re: a 1/12th console so I decided to once again jump in and do it!

Basic Kit Panel - 1/16th Acrylic (actual kit will probably be 1/16th MDF)
    IMG_20190119_083550_zpsmoszcg3u.jpg

    Clear acrylic
    IMG_20190119_091521_zpsgk9t97nb.jpg

    IMG_20190119_091559_zpsm6feoffz.jpg

    IMG_20190119_102920_zpsz76cqoqr.jpg

I scaled down the working 1/6th scale console to 1/12th - it was just a matter of dividing everything in half which made it REALLY SIMPLE!
    IMG_20190119_102926_zpsftgkgt23.jpg

But I very quickly realized that I really needed to add more tabs to help align the parts

Part IV: A Console Takes Shape

What I thought I could knock out in a weekend was "technically" correct. I built the console and cut all the greeblies in a day but the filler and primer took forever to dry due to the cold... ugh... But it was still a lot of fun!

Instrument panels get their guide plates

    IMG_20190119_145859_zpsdexxf0bx.jpg

It was really amazing how well everything fit together being scaled in half from the 1/6th version - all the tabs aligned!

    MMMMM primer

I had to add a thin sheet of styrene to the top instrument panel to close up a gap between the panel and the body

This would be a lot of work if you only did it at one scale!

Where are you moving? Different town, or just different house?

    Hey LtW,

Actually, I think it would be a lot less work if I stayed at one scale... ;) The 1/12th was just a test to see if the console could be done. I have a LOT of work ahead of me. I have to finalize the 1/4 scale cockpit in prep for a possible kit. I then take that and scale everything down to 1/6th. Then, if there is ANY demand, take the 1/6th and scale down again to 1/12th... Whew... too much math this early in the morning.

I'm staying in the immediate area. I'm just looking to downsize and lower the monthly payment.

Two quick questions, Sofa... a). Where are you moving to, and b). Is the full-scale cockpit permanently based in Texas now, or will it eventually come back to you?

    Hey T,

I'm not moving out of state. Just looking to downsize and staying in the immediate area from where I am now.

The cockpit is "temp" living in Dallas. For the next year or so it will be going on tour / conventions. Texas has several large conventions that we want to take advantage of before venturing out to other parts of the country. We are hoping to go to SW Celebration in April but we know that larger props have been significantly scaled back. After a few years the cockpit might come back to Alabama. But not to worry! I'll be building a second cockpit that is even more screen accurate, have better mobility and even more modular than the current cockpit. And if I have the room... I'll be adding more of the full scale corridor!

And yes... I'll be posting more images and vids of Ver 2! :)

    Hey Gang,

I'm having a REALLY TOUGH time balancing between posting images and posting videos. Naturally the images are posted long before the videos so you all get to see what I've been working on before the video is even started. I have to find the right balance between video and images. I dont want one to suffer more than the other. If that makes sense?

If anybody has any ideas PLEASE let me know. :)

Looks great your doing brilliant with that smaller scale falcon cockpit great skills dude. I would love a millennium falcon full scale cockpit in my garden but I will need to get myself a 3D printer and some more tools first and make it easier on myself. Plus I would likely need some help to make it I might give it a go in a couple of years.

I may be wrong Sofa, but it appears as though you may be putting yourself into a "timeline" to put this stuff out there, that most if not all of us don't even consider. I think we're all just greatful for you taking the time to share all of this with us so my suggestion is this...

Maybe instead of trying to change or scale back how much you share, and rather scale back on the time between posts. I know your weekend updates have been a staple in this thread for a number of years now, so maybe just take your time and release the videos on more of an "as they become available" timelime rather than every update like the images.

Just a suggestion. I know you put in a LOT of time and hard work on not just your projects but your sharing with us, so if anything was to get taken down a notch to make it easier on you, I'd think the newest edition (videos) would be the place to start.

    Hey ST,

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond and for your advice/thoughts.

I'm DEF putting myself into a timeline or more of a "box" maybe? The RPF has been my home since starting this project and the "Weekend Updates", as you said, have been a staple since the very beginning. I dont think I'll ever stop those ;) But... the channel has become very important as well. I spent an entire day making / finishing up 4 videos just trying to catch up with this weekend's "Update". Whether good or bad, I am taking pics and shooting vids at the same time. So it only makes sense to release them both together - not one later or sooner. I can't fall too far behind on either. Images pile up and the vids are a pain to sort through as well as edit. If that makes sense?

What I don't want to do is simply repeat what I'm posting on either site. I dont want to call it over saturation but maybe monotonous? Slowing the vids down would put me WAY behind. I'm trying to grow the channel and, if successful, I can do this full time and I can share more projects with all of you.

But where's that illusive balance? Maybe less photos and more vid content? The photos are a sneak peak?

Thanks, T! That would be amazing! Just to spend a day or two working all those talented folks and seeing those sets come to life would be a dream! Especially walking around the Falcon Interior!

Thanks, F! I'm so glad you're enjoying them. I have two more ready to post and then I am all caught up until this weekend's adventures.

The kits will be available very soon. As I mentioned above, just a few hurdles to go. :)

I love your videos Sofa! Despite not planning to build a Falcon anytime soon, they contain enough general model building information and techniques to be interesting for the general kit builder. Putting images of the stuff you're using for us other to see is very helpful, particularly here overseas where the brands you use may not be available and we'll have to look for substitutes.

The music is ... variable. I liked the slightly ragtime style of no 5 best so far ;-)

    Hey FF,

Thanks so much! Not to worry... the plan to build the Full Scale MF is ALWAYS in the back of my mind. And as soon I am financially able... I'm doing it! ;)

Glad you're enjoying the vids. I'll be cutting the times down to about 6:00-7:00 min each and focusing on individual elements of the project per vid instead of jumping around. The music is tough! I'm using YouTube's free music selection. Although the music selection is always growing its tough to find stuff that works. ;)

    Hi Gang,

The "End of the Weekend Update" is here!

I jumped into the corridor ring and pads!
    IMG_20190202_090529_zpsthjfdj5q.jpg

Following the familiar shape of the 1:1 scale pads I cut and sanded the foam to shape

    IMG_20190202_092436_zpstnvsnuya.jpg

The pads took about 2 hours to cut, sand and shape

Good Lord, between this and the videos you're going to burn yourself out. Take a breath, man. I don't know how you keep all these different scales separated. It is some pretty awesome stuff though. Just don't snap. Don't want to find you cowering behind the laser cutter in a cold sweat.
