1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Maybe you could use a syringe to strategically place the acetone and then use an ultra sharp blade (from what I understand scalpels are sharper than exacto blades or you could use a razor saw) to cut the plastic squares off. You probably will still need to do some paint fixes.

I've used hot glue to place LEDs in MDF before and it eventually gives out. Maybe super glue or gorilla glue? I would do some trials and test it out.

Loving this project so much!

Good luck.

Heath

I did that too. Although LED uses small power, because of it's size, the heat generated there will actually soften the hotmelt glue on long use.
Using superglue is better, just have to be careful not to let the top surface roughen (or sometimes it is purposely done to give wider/softer spread of light).

For higher wattage SMD LED, it is better to place it on top of a piece of metal plate(copper or Aluminum). The leg can be secured by using very small heat shrink tubes, or just run a vinyl tape, so it won't touch the metal. A thermal conductive paste is needed at the bottom of the LED. Securing the position with superglue on the sides.
The metal needed as heat sink (dissipate the heat generated by the component).

UPDATES!!!!!!! Enjoy!!! :)

After hours of measuring and pouring over screen grabs... I jumped in and started the front window/canopy!

I didn't realize how big the window actually was/is!

I took the same dimensions as the side panel and cut several supports to sandwich in between each panel

Adding more supports...

Notice the angle. I then have to skin this bad boy! I used 1/4 ply - very light and easy to move around

Stay Tuned!

Goo Gone and a Fishing line might do the trick.

Hi Tim,

I quickly tried the fishing line... no luck so far. I'm going to try with gloves and hope to add more pressure... :)

Wow! The window is looking great. So exciting to see. Heath

Hi Heath,

Thanks so much! I spent a LONG time trying to figure out exactly how I was going to make this first shape... And while I know it won't be perfect from the original, I'm just hoping to get as close as possible... :)

Uhhm Can I borrow the keys pops? :lol

Sure... but don't take her past light speed... It needs a new Alluvial Damper...

You can almost fly out your garage.

She might not look like much now... ;)

Taking shape. Love it!

Thanks much! She's getting there. There are so many little projects going on with this one build: door, platforms, LEDs, canopy, knobs, etc... I know by the time I'm finished I'll have the worst case of ADD ever! :)

But, but she'll go .5 past light speed, I really want to show the girls she's still got it. :rolling

Push that storm over here. I hate clear skies; they bring nothing but heat and boredom.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

It looks like rain will be here all day... UGH... But, I did pick up a few goodies for the back panel behind Chewie. I've been thinking how I'm going to go about recreating the F4 Phantom targeting screen...

I picked up a recessed light for a few bucks. The hole is 6.5 inches and the light 6 inches.

The radial design would fit over top and hide the trim piece

And if all else fails... I'll just do this... ;)

Let's hope the rain stops... I was really looking forward to getting out there!

Hi G,

Thank you for the VERY kind words! Just checked out your build. AMAZING STUFF! I might tap you for some electronics advice! :) Thanks again!

That's going to be a b**** to skin. :lol

Looking great!

Thank you, Sir! I don't think it will be that difficult. I have a little trimming to do on those edges that are poking out - my fault for not trimming. There are some thin bendable boards available. I just have to make sure I have enough surface to apply / adhere the skin. Of course, I say that now... lol

It's the angle that will make it tough. Unless you're good at math. ;)

OH I see what you're saying... This is the approach I'm taking. I'm going to "roll" the frame across a thin sheet of ply and take very rough measurements leaving 2-3 inches of play on each side and at the ends. I'll then cut the ply, adhere to the frame and then trim the excess... Again... I say that now... :)

And I'm not good at math...

EDIT: Taking into consideration what you just mentioned... :) I got my supervisor with me...
