1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Might they be any cheaper if you went down to the ole' Pull-Your-Part?

If only we had access to the junkyards they did in the original production. Rolls Royce engine parts for cheap and by the pound would really make greebling the FS Falcon so much easier...

either way, looks like you're on the right path (now that you post that picture, I do remember you posting that image earlier in this thread, so my apologies.)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey there!
I have been following this thread for some time now, and I just had to ask: which conventions is this baby going to be going to? If it could make the trek to the Great White North and Central Canada Comic Con, that would be a dream come true... just something to consider.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Fellow RPFer, Blackbeardcrazy, was kind enough to forward the 3D model of the throttle greeblie he created. I'm going to have it 3D printed and then take molds of the part!

Thanks again Blackbeardcrazy!!! :)

Also, it was snowing ALL day yesterday. But I'm working on Han's side panels now and I'm hoping to get something done today! But it's also tax time and we all know what that means? File an extension so I can get to work on this cockpit! ;)

I think about going to yards all the time but I would have to know exactly what Y Pipe I'm looking for and then find 8 of them... I'm beginning to think that getting a 3D print of one and then make a mold might be the way to move forward. What do you think?

Can you imagine picking through an old aircraft grave yard?

Hi Yodamann,

To be honest, I'm not sure which Cons we'll be attending. I can only assume that it will be Cons close to the Alabama and Tennessee area. That's not to say we won't make the trek - we just havn't discussed it.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang!

This is the panel where Han flips the switches and cuts to the sublight engines. The original (we guesstimate) had approx 170 switches. Since we don't know what switch was used and I'm using the cheapest commercial switch I could find, I had to do some thinking as to where the switches were going to go while keeping with the basic layout. In the end, I only removed 20 or so switches... which means I have to drill 150 holes... not to mention the holes for the LEDs...

Took all the measurements and then circled the holes to be drilled (the best part is I get to do the measurements twice - after it's painted)

Using a wood screw and a hammer I lightly tapped a pilot hole

Another panel ready for drilling, painting and pinstriping!

The other panel needed more filler so I'm waiting for that to dry before I begin the process described above.

More to Come!

If you make it to Toronto you've got a place to stay! :):thumbsup

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Got the first layer of paint on - lots of minor touch ups to do on this panel...

Other panel with filler drying in the sun - this panel doesn't have as many swtches - only 120...

Stay Tuned!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang!

Panel number 2 drilled and painted! Approx 146 holes... Again, I had to fiddle with the switch placement and spacing. But it should look ok once everything is in place.

Once this coat of paint dries I'll sand down smooth fix any imperfections and then add another coat of paint! I don't know if I'll be able to pinstripe this evening... fingers crossed!

You make it look so easy! As always, nice job. Can't wait to see more.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Beautiful renders and work! Makes me rethink a few things on my console!

Thanks! :)

Please feel free to use the cad files posted on my site if they are helpful. I'm not using the same photometric approach Starkiller has been and it really is more of an idealized vision - but it is to "plan" - ha! Whatever that means... Silly Falcon...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I totally agree...But I definitely wanted you to have the info. Now you know. :)

I have not forwarded to Chris yet...Been busy with a project of my own.

Great work BTW. Things are really starting to come together nicely.

Jason

For what it's worth, I just posted new cad files of the pilot seats to my site. They are a bit more accurate in the shoulders and through the center section. The head is still a bit too square, but it'll be a while before I get to updating that.

At any rate, it's not enough of a change to impact the cost of real seats, but thought I'd share for those interested...

J.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

They look great! I also like how you made the front of the console appear to be a separate piece. Was there a pick that showed that?

I'm getting to the point where I have to start thinking about seating... At the very least I'll need a pilot and co-pilot seat.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi All,

This is pretty funny... I woke up around 2:30 this morning in a total panic... After all the sanding, filling, drilling and painting I did on those two panels I NEVER even checked to see if the switches would fit. I assumed 1in high and 1in across would be enough spacing... I didn't want to spend another day filling holes.

I shot out of bed, stumbled to the "Parts and Greeblies" room, grabbed two switches and screwed them into the panel... with only 1mm to spare - the switches fit.

WHEW!!!! I'll take a pic when I get home. Another crisis averted! And I'm tired. ;)
