1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) R.I.P STUART FREEBORN

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Almost Finished Pge [21]

Man i just love seeing the latest pics on this.
Phil we gotta see the the acid test dude, take a still from the movie and try and match the angle and lighting and let Thomas do his PS sorcery and show us a side by side comparison of this absolutely belting sculpt with the original.

Yes or even just a slightly further back or less tightly cropped shot, as you may all have noticed that I am somewhat limited by how tight Phil has photographed Yoda, to the point where I have to add material to his outfit to expand the scene a little. :angel The black backgorunds really help making the composites so much quicker, so please keep those. :thumbsup

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Almost Finished Pge [21]

From memory I don't think they do mate - left to right and when he needs to look up or down, his head moves. I could be wrong...

The best scene to check that would be when he's talking to Luke about the force just before he lifts the X-wing....IMHO perhaps his best scene.

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Almost Finished Pge [21]

Yup, pretty sure it's just left to right.

It was well worth checking, that scene is GREAT. Totally nostalgic, man!

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Almost Finished Pge [21]

Ya thanks for the link. It looks to me like they don't move vertically. The tilt of the head and the opening of the eyelids give the impression of looking up but if you fix on the horizontal axis of the eyes in relationship to the skull, I don't see any vertical movement. If someone can show they move vertically in their sockets, I'll buy them lunch :lol, but I'm pretty sure.

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Almost Finished Pge [21]

I second rich's post, That dvd set is amazing. I still have to finish my gorilla but that set explains animatronics really simply and is a great help for an animatronics beginner

Cyberman, buy a radio controlled car and use the steering mechanism to move the eyes back and forth. They're used all the time in special effects shops. It's the cheapest and quickest solution.

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Almost Finished Pge [21]

Wow some great comments and imput there!

On the eye movements, Yeah i had a hunch they oly moved left and right... The height of the pupils or up down positioning seems to be dictated by the degree in which the eyelids are closed or the way the eyes are mounted.

I'll have a look into all your suggestions guys.

Cheers

Phil

Not easy to match up without spending more time (ie: mouth open vs closed), but here is a quick comparison....

Cool Thomas... Yeah I'll need to take more matching images to have a proper shot at comparisions sometime. That said news shortly on this version :love

Just had an email from Nick Maley about my sculpt and the query about animatronics... Hes wanting me to send a silicone skin over to him and he'll design a mechanism for it for his... With that in mind he'll help me in the process :eek

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Almost Finished Pge [21]

Well guys shock of shocks.. I decided I wasn't totally happy with this version so I reworked the face to make the eyes much more accurate - cleaner and nicer along with a whole bunch of other things... I must be going mad! :wacko
