Your Favorite Movie Sequels That Never Were

I second The Incredibles, there's so much potential there for more but Pixar/Disney continues to refuse to give us a very well deserved sequel. I'm sure that at first it was because Lassiter was more enamored with some of their other projects then with the Disney buy out they'd rather go with sequels for movies like Cars simply because of the merchandising.

I'd love to see a sequel to The Thing... one where it was brought back to civilization... I'm talking apocalyptic scale.

HOping they do another Tron movie as well.

Remo Williams

LOL... this was actually the first one that came to my mind. The full title is even "Remo Williams: The Adventure BEGINS"

The Incredibles.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I can't believe they've waited this long considering how it's Disney and they milk everything for at least 1-5 sequels whenever possible.

District 9
Dredd

This and this.

District 9 is probably the one movie sequel I'm most excited about being made.

I can always do another Dredd. I loved that they went pretty raw with the last one. Loved the scene when they're coming out of Peach Trees and he tells the vagrant to come with them... and then then door slams down on him.

Should have brought back the series after that movie it was so awesome. A sequel would have been just as awesome. Kind of shocked they didn't.

Again: The Incredibles, this movie could have an awsome sequel, and because it's animated theres not many constraints with the actors ages. Come on Disney, DO IT already! Don't make me come over there...;):lol

District 9 also NEEDS a sequal. :thumbsup

"the Vega Brothers"

Vincent Vega (John Travolta in Pulp Fiction) is returning to the states after laying low in Amsterdam for an extended period of time after a botched job.
Victor Vega (Michael Madsen in Reservoir Dogs) is returning to "work" after a stay in prison from a botched job.
The Vega Brothers was something Tarantino would rant about time and again before going off and doing sword play movies that utterly killed the project from happening.

Was thinking about a couple movies that never had their well deserved sequel:

Unbreakable

A Masterpiece from the M.Night (before he started crapping all over us) Unbreakable was a great "Comic-Book" flick.

What sequels are you still waiting for?

Love Unbreakable, still think its the perfect superhero genesis story.

Still waiting for a sequel to the Last Dragon. Think they could do it now Bruce Leroy as the master sending his prodigy out to the world.

Transformers 1986, would have been great to have had another movie instead of the turd of a US series ending (with the japanese g1 cartoon going on for like a decade after it ended here), GI joe 1987, Final Fantasy 7: advent children, Hardware, another grumpy old men movie instead of Odd Couple 2,

I could probably sit here and list hundreds of movies I still wish had sequels, but here are a few:

1. Predators (want it to pick up right where it left off)
2. Unbreakable!!!
3. Serenity (would've preferred they somehow brought Wash back though)
4. Green Lantern (hope that Reynolds is in Justice League and/or gets a sequel, as I liked the first one)
5. Independence Day (they almost did it :()
6. The Punisher (one that had Thomas Jane, as I didn't like the actual "sequel")
7. Zombieland (with Woody Harrelson at the least)
8. The Thing (like someone else said, would love to see this on a bigger scale)

4. Green Lantern (hope that Reynolds is in Justice League and/or gets a sequel, as I liked the first one)
It was nice that they made it and the effects were cool... but I think Ryan Reynolds was wrong for this character. He'd make a much better Flash. Overall the movie was weak... but watchable. However, I'd take a sequel in a heartbeat to see yellow ring Sinestro and because Mark Strong is an awesome actor and thought he was ap erfect Sinestro.

5. Independence Day (they almost did it :()
I think I just read it's gearing for a 2015 release. Doesn't really excite me much. I'm seriously tired of Will Smith and the first movie grated on me, mainly because of Randy Quaid, Judd Hirsch and Harvey Fierstein.

6. The Punisher (one that had Thomas Jane, as I didn't like the actual "sequel")
TJ never did it for me as Punisher. Loved Ray Stevenson, but hated the acting for Jigsaw... and they didn't use the cool skull from the TJ version.

7. Zombieland (with Woody Harrelson at the least)
Definitely... but you'd have to have the whole original cast... and maybe have one or two of them get zombieified.

Yeah it definitely wasn't as good as it could've been, and I am pretty positive I would've loved it if they had gone with someone better for GL. It's just that once they make something (like with Punisher) I tend to prefer they make a sequel with the same actor regardless of how much I like them. Of course that's just my preference... By the way I 100% agree about Sinestro, he was one of my favorite things about the movie, and the main reason I want a sequel...

I didn't know that, that's a long time between movies. I don't think there have been many Will Smith movies that I didn't enjoy, and I'm pretty sure the ones I disliked had nothing to do with him...

Edit - I just read an article on this, and I've gotta say I am really looking forward to this (assuming it happens).

That would be nice, but from what I can tell it won't be happening considering they're making (or trying to make) a TV series with an entirely different cast :facepalm (don't know much about it, just saw an ad on Amazon)

A sequel to Westworld/Futureworld, just one more movie that was bit more action. For sure I'd liked to have seen sequels to Colossus: the forbin project and Logan's run.

3. Serenity (would've preferred they somehow brought Wash back though)
If you set the series before Serenity you can have a living Wash. I think everything was better without having to "solve" the origins of reavers or tying it in with the misdeeds of the Alliance. I really thought the series was richer where the civil war was just a backdrop for stories of adventure and the setting for Mal's psychological landscape.

I wish Unbreakable, Serenity, and The Incredibles got sequels. And there's also "Martyr", the original planned sequel for Chronicle that I wish Fox hadn't turned down.
Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis said:
“Gone was the aspirational ‘what would you do,’ gone were the pranks and the bromance, gone were lovely tragic Andrew and hopeful, bright Steve. In their place was a dark, frustratingly unblinking stare into a complicated world that posed the question is it worth it to be a hero, told from the point of view of a heartbroken and insane woman who would martyr herself to the cause of being the world’s first villain.

“It was, in my estimation, a sequel that elaborated on the ideas and situations from the first to create a different genre of movie. In the best of worlds, in my optimistic but wildly prejudiced eyes, this could make it an Aliens, a Terminator 2… in the worst a Grease 2. So, at the end of the day, maybe it’s better that Martyr never saw the light of day. Sad I didn’t get to do some of my other versions. The multi-movie low [budget] Chronicle-based found footage superhero universe culminating in an Avengers type team up was a real good one.”
I thought this sounded really awesome.

I think the adventures they got into were almost more of a backdrop for the bigger picture of the Alliance and River and Simon being on the run. At some point River's craziness had to be explained and I think they did a decent job of wrapping that all up while also giving more insight into the Reavers with the movie.

Kind of like Battlestar Galactica... there were a lot of side stories and fluff but the main purpose of the show was to find Earth and second to that was to learn more about the Cylons (specifically the unidentified skin jobs).

I prefer the small, character-based stories than the big, overriding plot. Stories about motley crew of misfits against an evil empire are a dime a dozen. All the best stuff is in the adventures.

For me, all the best moments of Firefly are those moments that are poignantly telling about the individual characters and their relationships. And that's what makes the series special for me:
Jayne watching over Kaylee like an older brother when she's being treated for a gunshot wound...
Mal waking from his coma in "Out of Gas" then, before lapsing back into unconsciousness, asking, "Y'all going to be here when I wake up?"
The single moment in "Heart of Gold" when Inara cries in solitude - the only moment we really see her vulnerable about her feelings for Mal
When Simon calls River, "Mei-mei." - a Chinese term of endearment for a little sister
When Simon saves the patient in "Ariel" and chews out the medical intern in post-op (I'm an Internal Medicine physician and was the chief resident of the program. Sean Maher was spot-on with how he played it. Even the look the nurse gave in that scene is a look I've seen so often before ... Funny thing is that Simon is my least favorite character.)
Kaylee in her room staring at her layer dress.
That Mal and Zoe's relationship is just like the relationship between characters Kambei and Shichirōji from Seven Samurai.

... I could go on and on. Every episode is packed with moments like these. Some of the most beautiful moments make me tearful (and I'm a guy).

But stories about underdogs fighting empires are a dime a dozen, as far as I'm concerned. Give me the small adventures.

You're totally right.... and all of that was excellent groundwork for a movie. The movie was another adventure... just one that wrapped up some of the adventures they had been in during the series.
