Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?
A movie franchise is only as strong as its last movie, and TLJ was not a strong movie. That is what I think is the primary reason why there was not more hype for Solo, and I don't think there would have been even if it had been marketed better. I think that the franchise as it is run now would need to produce a really good movie, and then the next movie after that could reap success.
The old Lucasfilm 1999-2005 had avoided that trap by making the franchise be more than the movies, but all walking in one direction. The movies were spaced out three years apart and in-between there were several books, video games and comic books, all spun off from the last movie leading to the next.
Those things helped make people invested in lead characters, even if the last movie was not very good. .. But not only the lead characters: every Jedi knight with a name had their own little fanbase. I mean... even Dave Filoni has a life-size statue in his office at Lucasfilm of a background character you can see for only a couple of seconds in the movie. At least one comic-book character was put into the movie because it had got a fan base.
Are there any video games, comics and spin-offs based on J.J's Star Wars timeline?
Is the franchise walking in one direction or is there a TV series, episodic movies and spinoff movies all in different time periods?
