Obi-Wan ANH lightsaber: Who built this?

Hello again guys,

I have now the doubt of who built this lightsaber. Does anyone recognize it? It was claimed to be from SD Studios when I bought it in an auction on eBay, but I've seen other SD Studios props and they are a bit different.

It looked like this when I bought it, except for the transistors; they were screws (I later added resin to the screws and painted them to cover the Xs):

I didn't really like that it was all black, so I made some modifications to make it look more like original props from references I found. Basically I added some 'rust' with paint to the grenade, replaced the D ring for one with the correct dimensions (the one it came with was really small), damaged the Graflex clamp to make it look weathered, painted the neck with brass-color paint, and also painted the vertical crack on the top of the neck, since it wasn't there in that piece. Finally I cut tiny pieces of the bottom of the emitter to give it a more battle-damaged look.

What I don't like about this saber is that the Graflex clamp is not as closed as it should be, so the whole clamp is about a half mm wider than it should be, but in the part of the bubbles you can see it's considerably wider than it should be.

Anyway, do you know who built this?

It's an SD studios saber, well mostly SD studios, the clamp is a Bisket clamp and the pommel however was replaced by a Gavidoc pommel.

Dan

I actually think that I might have assembled and sold that saber a while back.

I bought it from cesquad (or something like that) from eBay. It's great how you can track things in here! haha. Well, looks like I have a hybrid in the end.

If the bubbles are positioned correctly they sit between the clamp and not under them, same is true with a Luke ANH.

For a long time all we had were the Blast-tech replicas that slid in the clamp rails and were very narrow but a really bubble strip is much taller and sits in the clamp with all the surface area exposed.

Wow... good to know! I recently built a Luke's ANH using real parts and real Exactra 20 bubbles, (which is shown in the pic for comparison of Graflex clamps). I filed the bubblestrip to make it more narrow in order to fit inside the clamp rails :lol I should have left it as original I guess.

thank you for this bit of info! Later calculator bubble strips are pretty thin as well, so thank you, I never would have known

:love Yep, that is REAL world weathered.

As to the OP, I was certain on it being an SD given the gem and the extra ring of inner emitter holes, but the pommel was confusing me. The early SD pommels are unmistakably different and easily recognizable. Good eye guys.
