Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?
Totally agree that they'll never be able to capture the magic of the OT. It gave us something none of us had ever seen prior to it, a mixture of visual effects wizardry and a compelling storyline about a hero's journey. What we saw in the PT movies is a ramping up of the visuals (better effects, awesome saber battles) but the storyline was seriously below par. Even worse with TFA and TLJ.
I suppose the same goes for the Jurassic Park franchise. When we first saw that brachiasaurus on screen, it was such an amazing and unforgettable experience. The sequels up to the latest Jurassic World just gave better visuals but the stories are pretty meh. They can never recapture that first dino moment in JP.
Nonetheless, I don't think a lot of us are asking Disney to come up with a Star Wars movie that allows us to recapture what we experienced with the OT. All we ask are good, well developed stories that allow us to immerse ourselves in that galaxy far, far away, instead of reminding us of the day to day social issues we experience here on Earth.
