ZK's ZF-1 research thread

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

I'm sure those are LEDs. LEDs don't fade but there are circuits to make them fade. Just wiring a capacitor with them will probably make them fade out enough. They don't need to fade much as the sequence is fast. I would rather use a microcontroller though for better control.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Has anyone started working on actually blueprinted drawings for this?

There looks to be a support frame on the inside made of metal everything bolts to, kinda like this:

I could easily have it cut out of aluminum, but someone smarter than I am would have to figure out all the specs.

Well i've managed to get some similar tubing.

This has a 9mm outer diameter, and is called Stayput hose, which holds its shape.

This stuff comes by the metre, and was £11 per metre.

Heres some photos:

I should have the handle out of the studio mold in the next few days!

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Looks very good LDR. I need to get a Kazaan still.

Gregg that sounds great. Can't wait to see and get one.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Haha i knew i was going to get that wrong. I was just too lazy to check spelling. Not having a problem finding them. Thanks

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Gregg, thats great news!

I will definately want two, just incase i mess one up.

This is waiting for them:

a Hudson PFC cap AK.

and without the stock and front barrel extension.

I think this is what you guys are looking for:

The tricky part was making the grip hollow and just wide enough to slip over the motor...

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

I'll keep u guys posted, but molding the grip is a top priority.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Shawn, very nice. Thats definately what i need.

Can you give more details on the barrel end? Whats it made of how it attaches etc?

More pics please

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Gregg--you should have a package from me soon.

Shawn--What's the make and model of your Airsoft? I'm assuming it's an Airsoft...?

LDR--Great find on the "Stay-Put" hose!

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Man, this is such a freaking awesome thread. I'm absolutely loving the research done here. Keep it up guys!

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Droidboy, any news on the grips?

I'd love to buy two asap!

thanks

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Students of the LED's are on the right track to decoding them, I'll offer a couple of other factors in what you are seeing, and perhaps it'll help.

First is something called 3:2 pulldown. This is a process by which 24 fps film is converted to 30 fps video. The 24 film frames are distributed over the 60 fields/30 frames. Doesn't divide evenly does it? That's right. The film frames get mixed into different video frames.

Take four film frames 'ABCD'.

"The telecine alternately places A frame across two fields, B frame across three fields, C frame across two fields and D frame across three fields. "
-Wikipedia

This means a 1-frame LED blink is distributed across as many as three video fields.

After this, the movie is subjected to the tender mercies of digital compression, a detailed discussion of which would make blood shoot out of our collective eye sockets.

So, the LED blink pattern we see could be very misleading indeed, due to the complete imaging pipeline from original film, through video conversion, to home display.

I hope this was helpful and we now return to the scheduled prop mania!

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

and a little something to put all those LEDs in. 1st pull of scope parts shown - Resin body with thermaformed styrene side covers and monitor shroud.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

A prop maker's work is never done. Now I have a 'Maquis' in transit for Kit-bashing.
