ZK's ZF-1 research thread

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

im having trouble finding one! Can you give me a link?

The only ones i can find have the triangle lower buttons.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

I can't take credit for identifying the part, but it definitely figured into my reasoning for buying the mold.

LDR...I'll let you know when the grip is ready and available. I guess I need to start collecting these other pieces.

Gregg

Rats! YET ANOTHER ONE I forgot to mention! Glad you got to it first Gregg :) Since you have the mold, I guess that means you can offer first generation pulls of the handle, which it pretty much gets no better than! Nice!

Glad you guys are having luck finding those games. Took me FOREVER to get one! I am jealous!

Sorry i don't. After searching through 8500 auctions for handheld games i found only one.

I feel your pain! That's pretty much the trick. You just have to sift through a million auctions. Unless you happen to search by the name of the game, but as mentioned, they made like a billion different games for that chassis, so odds might be poor.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Okay, the Voyager kit parts find is just awesome!! It made me laugh out loud!! Keep up the great work!!

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Anyone have any leads on the blinking lights on the front of the scope thingy. I'm almost 100% sure that it's also a found item. The blinking pattern is way too complex for someone to bother custom building and programing especially when almost everything else on the gun is a found item. Could it be part of a toy?

What makes you say that? The PKE meter is way more complex than that and was custom made in the early 80s. IIRC the lights on the ZF-1 are just a simple repeat pattern, could be done with a cheap microcontroller.

I did a bunch of work on figuring out the blinkie pattern a while ago, looking at screen caps and composite images. I believe THIS is what the arrangement of the LEDs looks like:

blinkies.jpg

The colors indicate the sequence. So blue is first, then yellow, then green, then red, then aqua. There is a symmetry to the LEDS, though I think it's hard to tell from the screen caps.

This is a five flasher sequence, which can easily be accomplished with those Odo boards that were used in every trek prop ever made. Well, post-TOS that is. That was my plan. I believe the LEDs are just yer standard, Radio Shack style LEDs. The dome ones.

It's "Occam", but that's beside the point :)

While that may be true in philisophical debates, and SOMETIMES in the prop world, it is certainly not the go-to answer.

I am on the fence about it. So much of the ZF1 appears to be custom made, yet there's also a chunk of found parts on it. Really hard to say with certainty.

I guess my conclusion is that it MAY be a found part, but until someone finds it, building my own will be really simple, so I'm not going to sweat it.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Matt, that pattern looks good and is what i have but i have only one LED in the center and the red ones are closer together.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

The LEDs in my droring aren't quite to scale, but I believe the center light is a tightly packed cluster of four. I suppose it doesn't really matter. If you want to do it as one, that is totally cool. Just looks like four to me :)

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Hey Zombie...what was wrong with your Ford horn button besides the beveled edge around the outside?

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

So I guess this means I need to start collecting parts.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

So I'm wondering....would it be worth it to mold the model kit parts assembled? Maybe roto cast so we're not all trying to outbid each other on ebay?
