Zira, Planet of the Apes

I wonder what would happen if I did not glue down the appliance over my dimples...leaving a big patch on the cheeks of the appliance unglued. I will try that to see if my dimples still show up when I smile.

Here is a photo of the same appliance I peeled off when I first went under the goo, my "battle damage Zira." It's just plopped onto my face, not glued yet, and needs to be retouched with rubber mask grease paint. Damned dimples still show up.

Great costume and looks like you had a lot of fun too.

I have a gorilla soldier outfit, with real undersuit and bandolier, but I can't wear the makeup. Allergic to the damn glue. Last time I glued appliances on for vampire makeup, the next morning my face blew up like cauliflower. Maybe I'll pick up one of the gorilla masks from Apemania at some point.

FYI, if allergy issues are afoot, there always other adhesive options to try. 'Tis a sin to have a PoTA outfit like that collecting dust, you realize. :)

Oh, I know there are different options, but if it's adhesive, it tends to be a problem.

Actually, though my outfit is collecting dust, as a static display that can be kept out all the time on a gorillaized mannequin, it's enjoyed more than most folks's costumes that go into the clost.

I took this photo today. I ended up leaving the chimp in the car, because I didn't want to have to lug anything. He was well behaved though...and didn't leave a mess for me to clean up afterwards.

Didn't have time to re-do the shoulder seams, because I waited until the last possible moment and then I didn't want to mess up rushing.

Thank you!! The makeup (especially hair and sideburns) were such a total improvement from the last time!!! This photo was taken before I added the outline around my eyes.

Here I am holding a Mego figure for a custom project on another forum.

Going to upgrade my costume...by replacing the fleather with real leather. Don't know if I will replace portions or just start over from scratch. Perhaps I will start over from scratch just so that I can move up the shoulder seams--that bugs me the way they are now. It would probably also look more professional if I add the lining, so I will do that too to the green coat. Does anyone know the thickness of leather that can be sewn with a regular sewing machine?

I'm sure several shoppers thought to themselves "Get them stinking paws off those fruit!" :lol

Just perfect! :thumbsup

Perhaps they were afraid that I would start flinging fruit at them so they pretty much stayed away. :unsure

:lol Jessica, I'd love to hear more about people's reactions at the food store. Did you actually wait in line and buy stuff, or were you in and out for a quick photo op only?

And I've said it before but I'll say it again...you look APE-TASTIC!

We wanted to get to Baycon ASAP since I took so long with my makeup...so we were in the store not more than 10 minutes. When I am in ape gear, I don't like to eat anything solid because I don't want to mess up my blacked out teeth and don't trust myself with touching up, so liquid nutrition it is for me for the day.

I couldn't tell what people thought--they looked away when I gave them eye contact. I think they were afraid/shocked/speechless/embarassed getting caught staring at me. One guy was giggling in line behind me, and when I said hi to him, he just smiled back.

Only one person was brave enough to talk to me. She loved the makeup and thought I was beautiful.

Driving to the con, there were several people driving beside me with shocked faces doing a double-take. I remember this car kept speeding up and trying to get beside us...and the front passenger gave me a little wave. I blew him a kiss and I think he must have crapped in his pants. :lol
