Zira, Planet of the Apes

I saw your Zira at Wondercon. Great costume in pics, and better in person.

Great Job. I love how cool you look in the costume.

I've had my General Urko sculpt on the back burner for so long
I can't wait to get back to it and finish it..

I'm looking foward to future updates of your costume..

My tool for ventilating lace came. I'm so excited. Tonight I'm going to make a pattern for the lace...and work on the forehead part of Zira's hair. I tried the tool for about two hours while I listened to the TV on a piece of lace to see how far it would get me. Not very far. Taking two hairs at a time and hand tying it with this tool, I got about an inch accomplished. Maybe I will get faster as I get more practice. Plus, I think the human hair I bought is too short. It's only 16 inches. Not sure if 8 inches is good enough to comb back into the rest of the wig.

Absolutely outstanding. :thumbsup

I can just image the head turning that would be going on if you put that together with the "Escape" shopping outfit... the loud colors and style would catch your eye and then it would be double-takes all day long! :lol

That's my favorite part of Ape's III, Zira in a polyester pants suit !

No more having to mess around with your camera too! Just reach down the throat of your kid!!!:lol

Gluing down the foam latex was harder than I thought it would be. It took three tries before I got it right, and that was after some serious cussing and praying. The first time I put it on, it was crooked. Had to peel it off. Thank goodness it was forgiving. The second time I glued it on, there was a wrinkle between the brow and nostril. Had to peel it off. The third time the brows were stretched out and I had a strange expression. More cussing and praying...relaxing and trying to get into zen mode...and it finally fell into place.

Live and learn. The next time I put it on I will have had at least my experience to go by.

Yay for me! I found 18 inch human hair in #2 (dark brown) at a wig store near school...This I will use to ventilate my lace. The awesomeness of this is I can start TONIGHT instead of waiting for my order to come from Ebay had I gone done that route.

Edited to say...I can accomplish one square inch in two hours. I have a colossal mountain to climb, it seems to complete this. I hope to finish by May, and hope to pick up speed as I get more practice...

What does your lace tool look like? Is it just the holder and Vent needle? Mine works like an old latch hook rug tool and goes faster than that. I got to looking and I can't find anything that looks like mine, I'll keep looking.

As far as the makeup PM me with the problems you had and I can help you with some "work arounds" so you never have an issue again.

Laffo.

Found it!

Much quicker, and only a $1.50

I have been looking for that latch hook needle! I used to have one but who knows where it is! It's been more than a year since I last saw it...I bought it at JoAnne's years ago and have never seen it since.

Professor, how tiny is that latch hook? The one I lost would have fit through the lace I am using. I have seen such a hook at the wig shop but it would tear through the lace--what they had was too big.

The one I am using now is just a tiny hook and it's on a holder. It looks like something a dentist would torture you with at a cleaning session.

For a $1.50 I'd find out. It's for hair - so...
Mine is pretty small, small enough to put hair on Bridal Net.
You have a Make-up / Greasepaint "how-to" PM.

Thank you for the PM. It's going to help me a LOT!! Yes..I'm ordering the tool. I can't even buy half a cookie for that price. :unsure

Great costume Jessica! I have always wanted to do a Gorilla solider. I was at WonderCon (as Boba Fett) but I guess I missed you. Maybe one day I will get enough free time to attempt one.

When you say "lace" do you mean like the decorative stuff on clothing or is there a wig-making material with the same name? I know that's a stupid question, but I'm thinking about making a wig by Halloween time and that might be a good place to start.
