Zira, Planet of the Apes

The tool came from I Kick Shins. It's too big for the lace I am using. Darn.

Using the ventilating tool that I do have, I have put in 10.5 solid hours now onto the hair tying. I have probably covered 4 square inches. Perhaps I am putting the hair too closely together, but it's blending wonderfully with the main wig. I need to hair up the the lace all the way to the T-pins. What I am working on is just the forehead part. I am getting faster at it, but not significantly.

Zira's hairline steady marches onward...

This is the tool that I am using. Wayyyy better than the crochet hook I was using...and faster, too. I can do about 30 knots in 10 minutes now.

Closeup of the hairline, and you can kinda see the lace:

This is about how much I can do per day. It takes about an two hours to tie all of the hairs long enough on this amount of hair.

The hairline slowly advances. I must have put in at least 20 hours of work into this...but at this point who's counting. I am happy with the way it's slowly coming together, though.

This is where it was a few weeks ago:

At this slow rate I don't think I will have enough time to do the sideburns, too.

Hoping not to look like the monkey king the next time I go ape.

Zira was beautiful in her own way and you certainly bring that to the character. Just amazing. So if prosthetics are available I wonder if anyone has or plans to do a gorilla from the film?

Zira's hairline slowly marches onward!! Almost done...but I still have the sideburns left to do. I probably won't do such a hot job on the sideburns because of the timecrunch. Someday I would like to tie down some hair on lace for the sideburns and do a real great job on it. It just won't happen before May 23.

Do you have any plans on going to San Diego Comic Con this summer?

Jim :confused

I can't.

I would love to, but my husband won't let me fly down to have fun at a great costuming opportunity. Have to stay local, no matter how teeny tiny the events are here. :unsure

Quit typing get to tying. Looks good, let me know if you need anything. Did the Chimp come?
Lemme know if I need to talk to the Old Man.
Laffo.

Professor, the chimp is in the house.

That's what I get for marrying a human.

Okay, did the baby puppet get there? Let's see it. Is that better?
Laffo.

Yes, the baby chimp is in the house. I will upload photos of him tonight.

This is what I have left to do in three weeks:

Sideburns
Appliance repaint
Move the shoulder seams up by three inches
Remove the front green panel of chimp outfit and replace (glue spill at Wondercon)
New teeth
Sew new inner sleeves with the material I just found at Jo-Ann's

Am I forgetting anything?
Oh yes...I have to install a stick to my new baby chimp puppet prop.

Here are photos of Axis, my new old chimp in the house. (His previous owner named his Axis).

The face of the baby chimp needs work. Won't have time for a repaint though. Two more nights to tweak my costume since I'm too tired to work on it tonight. Bummer.

Still fussing with the hair, trying to get it just right....can't really tell how it will look until it's on though...hoping not to look like the monkey king.
