ZF1 build thread - picture intense

Thanks for the kind words and PMs, I really appreciate it! It keeps me motivated.

Ok, on to the next part.

To make this part I had to turn on my cnc, I haven’t used it in awhile so there was a few mess ups before I got the groove back with feeds and speeds.

Started with the program to run the machine that runs on g-code, made the setup with to end mills, 6mm and 3mm.

Ran the first setup with a drill, so the holes where drilled at the right place, then I secured the 6068 aluminum plate to the waste-board. And then ran the first action that was a pocket cut.

Next action was a contour cut.

And since I wasted all my 5mm end mills on something else when I was trying out feeds and speeds, I had to do this run with a 6mm and couldn’t reach all the way in some corners. So I had to run one program with the 3mm to get all the way down in all pockets.

And then did a finish pass over the whole pocket to get everything even.

Here it is with just a light sanding to dull the edges. A TIP, if you never used steel wool listen up, steel wool is great for everything. You have to get the 0000 grade, but I use it to polish metals, to weather paints and just about everything. The aluminum piece above was done with 3 min of 0000 steel wool.
Here is the piece with those small golden locking screws.

I didn’t have all the time I needed to get the surface marks off, but will polish them of when I put everything together.

On to the next part....

awesome part and awesome tool that you got! that will be one of the part I wouldn't be able to do myself indeed. pretty hard without a CNC.
looking forward to see the rest!! (y)

The Replay-button

This part is a collaboration between a found part and a machined part.
The found part is a very small yellow push button, and it should be a latching button (On/Off)

The machined part was done real quick, took maybe 20 min.
Managed to take a few snaps when I made it.

And here it is combined with the switch button.

Thank you for sharing this with us, I can't wait to see the rest :D
Thank you!
Beautiful work, on a fantastic prop. Do you have plans to display it anywhere in particular?
Thanks a lot! I have thought about some display possibilities, and I think I will build the yellow and black case that we see in the movie, but in a smaller size and maybe just as a base. Hope this make sense :)

On to the next part.....

So I haven’t been able to post in a while, that’s because I have a few movie gigs going on so I haven’t had the time for my own projects.
but I wanted to post, and I got this the other day so I thought I post this

The most famous Red Button in movie history.

This thing is kind of difficult to get a hold of, plus it’s very expensive for just a “button”. But I got a hold of a few :)

What I need to do is to make an aluminum “collar” for the body. But that will be covered in my next post.

I’ve also been experimenting with the darts points, been testing two different brass rods. And I think I know which one I like the most.

This is continued from my resent post with the Red button.

This is done the same way as the yello button, it’s just an aluminum collar that goes on bellow the push button.
I took a snap for all the different steps

Parted of the part on the lathe, the flashing was just peeled of with my fingers. Below picture is the finished part.

And below it’s fitted to the push button.

I’m going to start with the pod pieces next, so I’m going to dig into these kits, and do some castings from my pod mold, I have been looking forward to this! :)

After a few months of working on a few films I’m now back with this build. Starting slow with the barrel.
7CA769DB-8360-4B65-8013-240C4AE683B6.jpeg

I had this aluminum pipe that’s perfect in size, so I turned it at the end to make it flat and then turned it a lite smaller and made the “rim” at the end.
I had to make the part that’s going inside at the end first, so I had something to stabilize it with since it has a long stick out on the lathe.

After this I could knock out that part from the pipe and put it in the mill, and make the holes on the other side. And thread a hole for the nut that’s going inside.

Next part will be the steel ring that hold on to the pistons, and some plack paint at the end of the barrel, and it’s almost done. :)
