hi i was wondering if anyone could offer some advice. I am looking into getting a zentai suit for a superman doj suit and was wondering the quality difference between the rpc studios and lower price options such as zentai zone?

also I see on zentai zone 3 options for fabrics such as basic lycra, upgraded jersy lycra and thick lycra wich would be best?

Thanks

I got a Zentai Zone spiderman with the regular lycra. The quality is fine and looks good visually, but it is thinner than the lycra I know from bike pants etc. I've ordered another one recently and asked for the 'thicker shiny' fabric version this time, and should receive that any day now so I can comment further then if you've not already got a response before.

DOJ superman has a pretty glossy look to the suit, so just from seeing the 'regular' version from Zentai Zone I'd be inclined to get that 'thicker shiny' version myself if going with them for that suit.

I saw this comparison of the stitching posted on instagram recently, seems they're pretty comparable in that regard https://www.instagram.com/piercearooni/

Got my second suit today, both printed from the same file. The difference between the regular ZentaiZone fabric and the 'Thicker Shiny' is really subtle. If you didn't know it was there and weren't looking for it you probably wouldn't notice. It feels slightly thicker to the touch, but only really noticeable if you're holding the fabric between two fingers, and isn't visibly thicker. There is a very soft shine to the fabric, I'd not call it actually shiny however. All things being equal I'd get the thicker fabric as it only an extra $20, but I think in reality most people wouldn't notice or care about the difference.

However, the colours on the thicker fabric version I have are deeper and a bit more muted, and seem more accurate to the file (like the TASM1 suit appears on screen, or a bit like DOJ Superman). The standard fabric is brighter (more like the red and blue from Christopher Reeve style of Superman) and the details are maybe a bit sharper, but colour is less accurate to the file. I don't know if this is related to the fabric, or a variation in printing or some other detail.

If I was getting a DOJ Superman I'd ask for the thicker shiny fabric myself, but if the bigger variation is from the printing and not the fabric then it may not matter to most folks. Hope that helps

Would you be able to post a pic with the two side by side?

Sure, though this is taken on my phone so not sure how useful it will be. Left is the thicker fabric, right the standard, though to be honest the more I look at them the more I wonder if they just pretend one is thicker haha

Thanks for doing that. Really interesting.

I think the minor loss of detail between the two (whether it be the fabric itself, or just a random variation in print) is worth the durability increase with the thicker fabric. So I think you'd be right that the thicker is better to upgrade to. Thanks again.

If your after a base for a costume then pay a visit to your local dance uniform shop. They would be able to help get what you need in the correct size aand better advise you on materials.

Cheep suits use polylastic mix's that are horrible but dance shops can get you a suit in better fabric.
