Your Favorite "YES!!" Moments (TV/Movies)

Aside from many that are mentioned, I know I've had these moments, but I'm having a hard time remembering where.

I get them a LOT lately in the new Doctor Who show. One that comes to mind pretty easily is the long-ish ending sequence of The Doctor Dances, basically from the part where he figures out how to use the nanobots to fix everything, Jack nabs the bomb, and then they manage to rescue Jack.

In L.A. Confidential, there were a few moments.

First, when I thought that all three separate investigations were gonna tie together (oops...didn't see the surprise bit coming...). Second, when Dudley finally gets his. Man, James Cromwell is a HELL of an actor.

Joss Whedon's stuff typically has aborted Yes moments, usually punctuated by NO! moments. Like, "I am a leaf on the wind. Watch me--URGH!" It's actually gotten to the point where I'm kind of sick of Whedon. His one trick was interesting initially, but now any time I watch his stuff it's like placing bets on how many and which beloved characters will die. By being the anti-cliche, he's become his own cliche. I'm not sure he sees that, either.

Independence Day. Went into the movie hot and grumpy, walked out saying "Yeah.....YEAH!!!".

Even went so far as to e-mail Siskel & Ebert and tell them they were wrong to trash it.

No, it wasn't the greatest movie ever made - but it was pure escapist entertainment. Any film I can walk out of a moviehouse and feel I got my money's worth is ok in my book.

Ooh! I forgot one! Also from Doctor Who season 5.

River Song making the Dalek beg for mercy before "exterminating" it. That scene almost makes her character worth it for me.

Another vote for the Atmo jump in Galactica. EPIC.

When Marty jumps back to 1985 in BTTF, with the lightening striking, Doc making the connection just in time, and BANG!! ...that trail of fire just runs into the theater... awesome.

Okay one from tv...

TNG Series Finale "All Good Things"- the future Enterprise D decloaks and blows away the Klingon cruiser like it was made of paper!

I actually watched the finale as it aired on the Jumbotron at the SkyDome in Toronto with about 40 000 other ST fans.

So the Enterprise fires the super-duper phaser, blowing holes in the Klingon ship and 40 000 people in unison go... WHOA!!! :eek

YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS!

Kevin

In Shawshank Redemption, when the Warden rips the poster off the wall and finds the giant hole behind it... :lol

The crane kick to the face at the end of The Karate Kid.
The drop ship rising behind Ripley just before the colony explodes and when Jimmy falls through the ceiling and kills the really nasty army bloke in 28 Later.

A more positive one? The Galactica jumping into New Caprica's atmosphere, deployimg her Vipers, then jumping out. A thing of beauty!

This!!!! And when the vipers came out of the movers ship in the episode when they raid the cylon fuel depot.

That's why I brought this thread up. There's a TON of them in the new Who, and even in just Series 5 Who.

Mostly I was curious how many would be based on 'violent' moments.

For me, it's more the happy-resolution-"We're Saved!" moments that get me. It's rarely the whole "Yeah! Get that *******!" sensation. Although it does happen once in a while. New Who really goes to some effort to humanize (yes, even the aliens) the badguys. Certainly the 10th Doctor made it a point to give enemies a choice to walk away with his help, rather than just being the sword of Time Lord vengeance. Still haven't gotten to Matt's run, though.

Forests of the Dead was a good one, though, now that I think of it. Everyone's saved, River Song (whom I like in that episode) gets her happy reunion with the rest of her crew, etc.

One of the "vengeance" ones that readily comes to mind, though, is the whole "HALLO! My name is Inigo Montoya! You kill my father! Prepare to die!" and the whole "I want my father back you sonofab**ch!" bit before he kills Rugen.

1989 Batman movie when the new bat mobile is revealed. When Batman tells Vickie to get into my car and she says "which car" and the music rises in crescendo......

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about that. It's happened in a couple episodes and it feels like a cheap way out. Instead of trying to actually work at an ending, the enemy gives up because they realize The Doctor is dangerous. Blech.

It's great from a 'real life' perspective - i.e. "You know what I'm capable of, so let's all walk away alive", but from a writing perspective it's cheap.

When did they back down? My sense is they always laugh at him and say "Haha, puny Timelord! I have an entire Army/Superweapon/Dalek Invasion Force/dirty great stick!" At which point he grits his teeth and says "I warned you," then proceeds to either let them slip on a banana peel or press an "Explode Badguy" button. :)

Star Trek: First Contact

When Picard gives the ""line must be drawn here" speech to Alfie Woodards character.

I also have to agree with the scene in Aliens where Ripley appears in the power loader and gives that ***** queen the smack-around.

I also liked the scene in Aliens when Ripley is in the queens chamber, an egg opens up near by, Ripley tilts her head and let's all hell break loose.

The worst one was Silence in the Library, but also The Pandorica Opens (though, I suppose, that last one was just temporary...).

Sorry to resurrect a two year old thread, but I have some contributions (and I think this thread could use some new life).

1) The Last Starfighter - Death Blossom scene. Oh and "She won't answer the helm! We're locked into the moon's gravitational pull. What do we do?" "We die."

2) Serenity - The look on the Operative's face when the Reaver fleet came into view was priceless. Just to see him lose his cool was worth every penny.

3) Star Trek VI - The Enterprise and Excelsior opening up on Chang's ship.

4) Star Trek (reboot) - Enterprise comes out of warp, guns a-blazing. That, and Enterprise comes out of Titan's atmosphere. Pure. CGI. Porn.

5) X-Men: First Class - "Hello I'm Charles Xavier." "Erik Lensherr." "Go **** yourselves."

The Dark Knight when they crash and blow up that Ugly looking Tumbler.

I was the only one in the theater who stood up and cheered!

I'm sure once I get around to seeing TDK Rises, I'll cheer when they beat
the snot out of Bale too! Look forward to it actually!
