Aside from many that are mentioned, I know I've had these moments, but I'm having a hard time remembering where.
I get them a LOT lately in the new Doctor Who show. One that comes to mind pretty easily is the long-ish ending sequence of The Doctor Dances, basically from the part where he figures out how to use the nanobots to fix everything, Jack nabs the bomb, and then they manage to rescue Jack.
In L.A. Confidential, there were a few moments.
First, when I thought that all three separate investigations were gonna tie together (oops...didn't see the surprise bit coming...). Second, when Dudley finally gets his. Man, James Cromwell is a HELL of an actor.
Joss Whedon's stuff typically has aborted Yes moments, usually punctuated by NO! moments. Like, "I am a leaf on the wind. Watch me--URGH!" It's actually gotten to the point where I'm kind of sick of Whedon. His one trick was interesting initially, but now any time I watch his stuff it's like placing bets on how many and which beloved characters will die. By being the anti-cliche, he's become his own cliche. I'm not sure he sees that, either.
