Your Favorite Movie Soundtrack? Go!

Can't pick one. Too many.

Pretty much anything by John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, David Arnold, Murray Gold, Brian Tyler, some Bear Mccreary, a little Hans Zimmer, some Alan Silvestri, a little bit of John Powell, some Michael Giacchino, and a million other soundtracks I cannot name.

John Williams has made some of the best and is the best in the business. But wow noone even mentioned Mortal kombat :p ?

I'm also quite partial to some themes from DCAU movies:

Green Lantern: First Flight

Justice League: Doom

Superman: Doomsday

Wonder Woman

I've got two soundtracks I really like.

The first is from The Big Lebowski. (Captain Beefheart, Bob Dylan, and a trippy Kenny Rogers? Awesome sauce)

The second is Lost Highway (Trent Reznor may be the one of the greatest musician's on the planet)

As far as film scores it's a toss up between LOTR and Star Wars OT.

Okay we've had this discussion before. Is a soundtrack the music, like the Footloose soundtrack would be, or is it the score like LOTR would be?

For me it would be those classic 80s films. Pretty much anything Kenny Loggins did. Footloose, Top Gun, Caddyshack, etc. runner up would be the Transformers animated film.

If it's the score, it the BTTF score.

The score of a movie is the original, usually classical music composed just for the movie. The soundtrack is all the copyrighted, preexisting songs that are used in the movie. But phrases like "OST" (Original Soundtrack) are confusing, because the OST refers to the score.

For me, the classic go to is any of the Star Wars OST, ESB being my favorite. I 2nd runner, if based on # of songs in my iTunes library, goes to Hans Zimmer's TDK (well, his and James Newton Howard's) and TDKR score, and to a bit of a lesser extent, the MoS score. But I also enjoy Drive's score and soundtrack. In fact I think the music took the movie from "okay" territory to "pretty great" territory. Also, the Indiana Jones movies have great scores. To save time, basically anything John Williams. Yes, even Hook. :p For non-Williams/Zimmer scores, I love the LOTR score by Howard Shore. Goose. Bumps. Oh, and for "soundtrack" pick, I'd have to go with Perks of Being A Wallflower. That soundtrack is spot on for the tone of the movie, and actually makes the most powerful scenes that much more powerful ("Heroes" playing in the last tunnel scene, I'm looking at you). And for TV I love The Original Series of ST.

Currently , I have been listening to Man of Steel and The Lone Ranger. There are so many out there, but if it came down all time, it would have to be Star Wars. That is the score that got me listening to scores.

I love most anything by John Williams, Hans Simmer, and Michael Giachino.

One of my favorite soundtracks, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story by Randy Edelman. The end sequence score is simply sublime.

Another favorite is Trevor Jones' Last of the Mohicans.

Favorite? No have. But in the current rotation: Capricorn One, Pacific Rim, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I would have a really hard time choosing between Tron Legacy and Iron Man.

Tron Legacy: ...t was like a match made in heaven.

Iron Man: was just flat out awesome. Ramin Djawadi killed the composition for that movie. Driving With The Top Down was perfect for that part of the movie, and I still get goosebumps every time I watch that scene in the movie.

Honorable mention: Hans Zimmer.

Agree 100%
I listen to Tron A LOT. My kids even love it. Just a fantastic match for a movie in every way. Honorable mention for Tron: Uprising. It's a variation to the Legacy theme but still has some great tracks.

Iron Man was also a perfect match, which is why I was incredibly disappointed that 2 & 3 didn't use Djawadi or the music theme. He absolutely nailed it with this soundtrack. I've liked some of what he's done... and not so much with other stuff. I though Pacific Rim was a borderline retread of Iron Man for example.

Hans Zimmer... that dude nails is almost EVERY time.
- Black Hawk Down
- Nolan Batman films
- Man Of Steel (very high on my list, despite the lack of the original theme he killed it with Flight and If You Love These People)
- Inception (if I had this on tape I'd have worn it out three times over)
- Gladiator

The RDM Battlestar Galactica soundtracks were all pretty amazing. Bear McCreary did an amazing job with it.

Love The Fountain and Smokin' Aces by Clint Mansell.

Honorable mention for Harry Gregson-Williams, Howard Shore, Basil Poledouris, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard and Jerry Goldsmith.

Personal favorites:

Movie
Star Wars ESB - The Imperial March... nuff said
Superman - I still get chills whenever I hear the John Williams' title score
The Crow - the music was a perfect compliment to the dark undertones of the film
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story - as previously mentioned "The Dragon's Heartbeat" is an awesome theme and one of my all-time favorites
Transformers (1986) - one of my guilty pleasures
Top Gun - I can't be the only one that got a speeding ticket as a kid driving to "Highway to the Danger Zone" ;)

TV Soundtracks
Doctor Who - there are a number of good tracks over the course of the modern series but I'd recommend "The Doctor's Theme" (Series 4) and "I Am the Doctor" (Series 5)

A bit off-subject, but I have to say that I absolutely LOVE the music in the Teen Wolf TV series.

The music in this particular clip right here is just the right amount of epic to take a fantastic episode and put it over the top into practically legendary status.

Mine would have to be the original Star Wars soundtrack. Back in '77 that's pretty much all we had to help us relive the movie. I must've listened to it 1000 times at least. I know every note of the entire thing and can tell you exactly what's happening in the movie during every bar.......But of course, I'm sure most of us can do that!:)

SW, Indy and BTTF aside (those are pretty iconic and can't really compete IMO), my fav has to be the Das Boot soundtrack.

Gladiator, Hannibal,And The Dunnwich Horror,And if T.V were in here I would have to say The Mercy of The Living from The Walking Dead Season 1
