YAFF - Yet Another 5 Footer Falcon Build

Cheers for all the wonderful comments - I have 1 part left to print for the port sidewalls - and 2 of my already printed parts, I will be reprinting as I'm not 100% happy with them, but while I wait for those here's some more photos, including the inner mandible walls.

Out of curiosity, why epoxy primer? I thought it wasn’t meant to be sanded.
I'm just going to try it (Might just try on a turret first), it may fill in too many details.
But its a bit of a trick when 3d printing as the epoxy fills in layer steps a lot better than normal primer.
Might be totally wrong for what I want tho, I'm new at the painting side of things, so any recommendations would be appreciated

Ah. Yeah, I’d be concerned about losing details and being unable to reduce primer thickness easily. But my print experience is uniquely with resin prints, so I can’t offer any opinions really. :)

Good Call, I've got a lot of test prints (even multiples of the side walls) - so might grab some different primers on the weekend to try out, any recommendations, favorites you guys use?

I originally hooked up with this guy to spray my r2d2, which makes a lot more sense than the falcon. Still not painted r2, painting is not my forte. ;(

Tamiya and Mr Hobby primers are probably the best and you will certainly not lose any detail (which might not be best if you're trying to fill layer lines). They're also the most expensive.

For cheap Walmart primer, you're probably after Rustoleum sandable automotive primer.

Best to save all of your print 'rejects' and use them as trials to test different painting strategies, weather methods etc. I always save my rejects and as 'test subjects' they have sacrificed themselves admirably so when it comes to painting the actual parts, you can do so with much more confidence :))

this is what i use .. easy to sand and will cover print lines nicely with multiple coats....just done a viper and xwing ..now having said that it will fill up panel lines and i learnt this the hard way because i made a meal of rescribing them....so scribing them before you paint is key and i give them 3 passes and you might get down into the fill section if done to much but does not really effect it...having said that this falcon probably wont need that at all.. https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn...er-&-Putty-Repair-Grey-400G---OH400/p/DI02751

Goal this week is to finish off the Mandibles - at least the upper parts, I still have the lower pits to complete.
Have a variety of primers to try out, so thanks for all of the input, will post photos once the last of them gets delivered, and I can test them all side by side. - I will attempt to knock out the mandibles fully including lower pits over the next few weeks, before moving back onto the rear deck.

here is a couple of pics ..i will sand and add coats to the outer larger sections
Well done rustbucket.
Beautiful work and photographs show greeblies detail on air lock hatches. I need to check my orientation a placement.
Hard to keep up with that DazzaOO7 fella and kit parts map maker guy Jcoffman & the RealDaveWinter’s scrutiny.
