Just watched the unrated cut of The Wolverine last night and was pleasantly surprised by the cameos in the post-credits scene that I'm pretty sure is supposed to lead directly into Days of Future Past. I hope Wolverine gets a few scenes to unleash in this flick like he did in the standalone film because those sequences of him going "Berserker" were fantastic!
Well Wolverine is going back to 1973 and changing the timeline, so that will change the timeline a lot. Most of X-O is set in 1979, so those events will be changed. I feel like X-3 will be continuity at the beginning (ex Cyclops and Jean are dead), but after Wolverine travels through time a lot of events in X-3 will be rewritten( I have even read that they explain how Xavier is alive in DOFP desipte his death in X-3). Same with The Wolverine, Singer has addressed that Magneto give Wolverine his metal claws back. The way I see it ALL the other X-Men movies, besides First Class, will be rewritten since Wolverine goes back in time to 1973 and changes the events that lead to them. I don't see an issue in ignoring the continuity when you are traveling back in time and changing the timeline. The one thing that has been revealed by Singer as well as people who have seen this film already is that Origins, Last Stand, and The Wolverine weren't part of the cannon anymore. Singer also wishes fans would "forget the continuity".
I have to agree with you on this. X-O had its continuity errors, but it is nowhere near First Class. I liked FC, but I spent the whole movie like Mystique and Xavier were friends? She poisoned him in X-1. Wait Hank turns blue and Shaw dies? How did we see a human Beast talking to Shaw on TV in X-2? Emma is this old in the 60's, but younger in X-O. Cerebro was made by the CIA and not by Magneto and Xavier like it was said in X-1 and X-2. The list just keeps going. I liked X-Men: First Class, but those errors took me out of it.The continuity was all fine until First Class showed up on the scene....

Granted a lot of those errors will probably be fixed in DOFP and the general movie goers probably didn't notice the errors to begin with.
Yeah, it's a great if viewed as a stand alone film. To be honest when I first watched I thought it was a reboot until the Wolverine cameo, then I was like wait they changed a lot of stuff. haha It's still a great film, but I personally like the continuity to be respected when you are doing prequels. Now, we see with DOFP that they are indeed the same universe despite the errors in the story. The argument can be made that taking liberties with the continuity is okay if it serves the story, but honestly it defeats the purpose of prequel. A prequel should explain how events happened before the original films instead of raising more questions because they don't fit together. Just my thoughts there, but like I posted earlier the way you view it is probably the best way since it doesn't fit completely with the original films.I'm kind of the opposite when it comes to First Class' continuity errors since I prefer to watch it as a reboot instead of a genuine prequel.
