X-Men: Days of Future Past

Saw it last night... Loved it. But you REALLY have to forget about continuity. The more you overthink it, the less any of it will really make any sense.

The continuity was all fine until First Class showed up on the scene....

You have a point, but X-3 was a flaming turd. Granted, First Class could have easily avoided some things, there were already continuity issues before First Class thanks to Origins. Kinberg has said that in DOFP they are going to fix some of the continuity issues with "time travel". Let's hope they did.

Its not really a prequel and not really a reboot now that dofp is made. They are more of an elseworlds type off story.

Still a prequel. DOFP is supposed to clear up some of the continuity issues. Guess we'll find out.

I won't defend X3, that was the worst one with Origins following. I just am glad they seem to be getting it better with these last 3 movies.

Not that many continuity errors were fixed with DOFP. In fact I think it it created a few more of it's own. But that could be down to time travel alterations so I will leave it at that for the moment.

This thread is making me think the movie is going to be a rental instead of seeing it in a theater.

So tired of reboots and re-imaginings because some writer or director thinks they can do it better and most of the time they F it up and do an even worse job.

Sent from my Etch A Sketch.

What makes you think it's either of those things? I can safely say that it is not a reboot or reimagining. It actually incorporates every movie thus far except The Wolverine.

Cool, so Xavier can walk in this.

Reboot, sequel, prequel, re-imagining, whatever, I've made up my mind.

I refuse to see this movie. Best in the series? I don't care. Best film of the year? I don't care. Best Marvel film across the entire freaking board? I don't care. I am not going to see this movie. Hope you guys enjoy it though. Everyone seems to be loving it.

Ever heard that one about the tree that falls in a wood that nobody ever hears . Well on the internet there is a human equivalent that tries to infect ever other person around it with its own negativity, just to try and prove it exists.

I know it's not the case but, I see the series as:

First Class
The Wolverine
DotFP

In my mind the others never existed. That way there isn't any continuity errors or just bad movies

Jeyl, yes you will...You went out of your way to comment on here.

You have fun with your version of the movies.

No, I won't.

What's the beef?

You make it sound like DOFP killed your dog. :)

Fair warning RPF. He asked. *clears throat*

Kitty Pryde goes from protagonist of the source material to a literal plot device for no other reason than to make this another gawddang Wolverine story. Producers defend it saying that Kitty wasn't born yet (Because their respect for continuity is so astonishingly accurate) and Wolverine is the only one who can survive such a journey (Which doesn't make any sense since we clearly see other time traveling done by other characters who aren't Wolverine).

Rogue's scenes being deleted because they had nothing to do with the movie. Makes it sound like they wrote them in that way just to use that excuse.

Quicksilver is here, but not Scarlett Witch. Also bonus points to Bryan Singer for proudly declaring that he deleted a one line reference to Scarlett Witch. Meanwhile in the Avengers sequel, Joss Whedon is using both Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch.

So in this wonderful comic movie universe where there are still no sign featuring a female character in the leading role, they take a story that featured a female protagonist and changed it to the one character who already his own freaking movie line to expand on. Will this change make the movie more bankable? Undoubtably. Will Wolverine be more awesome than he usually is? Maybe. Is this the kind of change I want to support? &%$@ NO! Will my non-contribution make any difference? Definitely not.

I know most of you couldn't care less about these kinds of issues as long as the movie is good and I understand your point. It's just a movie where you can just sit back, relax and have fun. So feel free to file this post away as a non-issue and have a good time.

Arrogance thy name begins with a J.
To actually heap this level of open criticism upon a film WITHOUT even going to see it so beyond a reasonable measure of contemptibility I have finally had to invent a word ,just to cover this particular aspect of your superpower, which, if you aren’t aware of it, is to get on the nerves of any open minded individual by whining like an ever spoilt child whose always desperate to be noticed .
It called “NEGATIVIUM”.
Actually, had you gone to see the film before bothering to dispel your usual acres of baseless wisdom you would see how just about every aspect of your post is so completely inaccurate
The decision to make it not Kitty Pryde was absolutely correct within the timelines of the film, (as in reality for the actress), she wasn’t even born then.
There is only one other person that time travels mentally and as it is done through the medium of Wolverine’s mind its totally allowable within the context of the film.
Rogues scenes are not all deleted. Not entirely.
And in all this endless spouting about how all the female roles are rubbished and ground into none existence in this film ,actually one of the strongest, frequent and best performances comes from Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique/Raven, around whose actions the whole future of the X men film universe revolves.
She actually dominates the screen and wipes the floor of nearly every male assailant throughout the film and if anything gets more of a role in this than Wolverine ,who is more of a conduit POV for the story than involved in the action.
I thought this film was brilliant, surprisingly moving, more so than any other X men film I’ve seen, equal to X2 with some astonishingly clever set pieces and funny moments ,and, most importantly it manages to make the tricky business of time travel and parallel storylines actually work very well and probably rescue the franchise from mediocrity.
WHEN you’ve seen it post something that’s even worth reply to. Or better still stick to wishing yourself a Happy Birthday in the other none movie threads.

Well, that's way harsher than it needs to be.

Jeyl has a valid point, they really screwed over the women in this movie, and I'm not happy about that. Days of Future Past was always Kitty Pryde's story. Doesn't matter the timeline, it's already fiction. Say that she got sent back into her mom's body. Heck, send her along with Wolverine, if we need him to star so badly.

Despite the crappy treatment I still plan to see it, but nothing is gonna make me happy about what was going on behind the scenes or convince me that it was fair.

It takes alot to annoy me Stronglikebear, I'm a kind of live and let live guy and ignore the rest, but in just about every thread I've read here over the last few months if not years, Jeyl comes in and spoils the party, even if it isn't his own and its not like he even wants to go to it apparently. he just has to get his points in. Its starting to become very troll like.
Very few graphic novels make it to the screen without the storylines being significantly changed to suit audiences, and I would point out there exists two film franchises, Twilight and Hunger Games ,that do remarkably well at the box office with their lead female actresses, which are very beloved by their legions of female novel reading fans, but I wouldn't want to post any opinion about them, because thats who they were designed to appeal to and I don't have any interest in them or joining in any conversation on their websites at all about how such successfull films could be improved because I just happen to think the female roles over shadow the males. Comics were written for a predominately male readership and its a testiment to screen writers that most roles have been improved upon.
The X men films actually have a fair balance of strong female roles (Jean Grey/Storm anyone?) and Jennifer Lawrence, probably off the back of her "Hunger Games" success, gets a huge piece of the action here and she's absolutely dead centre to the storyline. I would bet the reason Kitty Prydes part is diminished, but not gone, is because Lawrence gets to be centre stage here and she is entirely her own person in this, torn convincingly between Charles and Eric and hell, can she fight her own corner!
I am well prepared to listen to anyones constructive arguments but I'm tired of logging in to yet another film thread only to find yet another self righteous posting by somebody who manages to find fault with just about everything ever commited to the screen without actually bothering to see it . Go see the film and then post your POV and I'll listen to your valid opinion. If you don't do that and continue to kick it back in somebodies face then don't be shocked when somebody who has just been to see and thoroughly enjoyed it, decides to actively disagree back and point out just how wrong they are. And they have no justifiable arguement back because they HAVE NOT SEEN the movie, just read the comic. There is a difference.
I also note that Jeyl holds Joss Whedon torch aloft for his positive treatment of female roles. Yet even he is apparently prepared to kill Kitty off at the end of Astonishing X men.

Nobody would see an X-men film with Ellen Page as the main star, she sucks at acting. The story is more interesting with WOlverine as the one who goes back and would appeal to more people.
