Wow rpf turned into massive ad site

I guess the Jan 1 downtime was to install more ways to push ads with awful JavaScript.
I use my iPhone mostly when on here and today is first time back since the update and I got to say not liking the new “update”
Ads EVERYWHERE!! And even ads that float down and up when I scroll the screen up and down and often causing me to touch one and transferring me to that sites page! That isn’t appreciated. Seems like this site cares more about the ad revenue than the real meaning of the sites original intention.
This redirect sucks and should be removed from the site, I’m fine with seeing a ad or two in the thread or on top the thread and staying put but floating ads??? That causes people to accidentally touch them and get redirected to spam ads!

Absolutely nothing was changed in regard to the ads. Nothing has been changed with them in more than a year. Perhaps you had a premium membership that expired?

Hi Art, I’m ok with ads but not ok with the ones that just now keep popping up “dream singles dating site” and just a new one just now “7 Odessa beautiful women for every single man dating site” my wife sitting next to me on her iPad looked over at me and seen it and asked why I’m on that? I’m like I’m not it’s a ad. She knows I’m loyal to her but it’s a awkward feeling when stuff like that is on my screen when I’m on a prop forum. I don’t mind prop related ads as I will sometimes click on those (sideshow) sometimes appears and I will go there but seeing dating sites ads is the problem. My wife is hot as hell and lucky to have such a beautiful woman in my life and I have no desire to look for anyone else but I don’t want to be in a situation like that when these dating sites ads are showing. Anyway fo you to turn those type of ads off? Make the ads more site related?

Most of the ads on this site aren’t manually assigned by us (Propstore being the primary exception). They are largely targeted ads curated automatically by advertisers to capitalize on your browsing history. The ads are different for everyone. Not sure where you are visiting that are causing those type of ads popping up but they aren’t designed or controlled by us.

Me? I keep getting ads for exercise bikes. Pretty sure the ads are trying to convince me I am fat.

BorgHive I can absolutely relate to your situation.Unfortunately, ads are unavoidable for non-premium members.I see them too...excessively.And they áre annoying.
For a few bucks a month as a symbolical support for this life saver community (and practical ad-solution) I would definitely consider a small upgrade to Premium.

Glad I am a premium member. Most of my targeted ads on other sites are food and exercise related (wicked cycle - eat this, better lose weight, eat this, repeat).

Clearly you and I have similar browsing history because those are the ads I keep getting, just none of the tasty food. It is all exercise. I am not sure what Alexa is hearing me say all day, but the internet is painfully saying "hey fatty!"

Blame Facebook and blame Google. If you have ever "signed in" with Facebook or google accounts to anything, they have your IP logged and will serve ads to it whenever possible. As for this sight, do you see the little "Like" button with the the thumbs up icon. Looks like the one on Facebook right? Thats because it is Facebook. The fact that this sight has a FB group and links its posts to this forum and vice versa, means that the ad server run on FB will automatically target this sight as well. Only options are to pay for premium membership, run ad blockers, or put up with it. Sadly, its the world we live in.

This is false. Our reactions system was surely inspired by Facebook's massive success but there is no interconnectivity. Nor is there interconnectivity with our Facebook group.

Okay this explains why I keep getting ads for Female, Gender Questioning, Vegan, Anorexic, Ukrainian "Escorts" looking to meat American men. I really should see what else the internet has to offer.

This is an outrage and should not be allowed to happen!

...by the way, you wouldn’t happen to still have the link to the Ukrainian escorts ad, would you?

If this is true and the "Like" buttons were a part of the forum software, and not connected to FB, I stand corrected. So many sites have this imbedded in them now its hard to tell whats real any more. My word of caution is still valid for those sites.

While some of the ads are from older searches, I have definitely NOT been searching dance outfits for young girls. Some of the ads are quite odd and random. Guess I should check into a premium membership.

Story time. I call it How To Avoid Getting Personalised Ads About Thai Hookers That Get You In Trouble With Your Hot As Hell Wife.

Go to your google settings and click Mangage your Google Account

Locate the Privacy & Personalisation section and click on Manage your data & personalisation

Ensure that Ad personalisation is set to OFF.

Note that if you have it set to ON there is an additional check box as detailed below:

If TheRPF doesn't partner with Google to show ads and they're served from somewhere else... well, good luck explaining to your Hot As Hell wife why you are looking at a page filled with Sexy Odessa Cheerleaders. Maybe tell her you're looking for a birthday present for her?

This site has given me so much after so many years (back when I was Dorian Gray) that becoming a premium member was a no brainer. Honestly, this site and through its members has provided so many skills/projects in my portfolio. Before I found the site I was just a movie buff cruising eBay for props. Now I've learned how to wire electronics, mold/casting resin, etc and put those skills to use on several successful runs. It has definitely paid for itself!
