Wolverine Adamantium Claws and WonderFlex

Has anyone out there in RPF land used Wonderflex before? Is it thick enough to create Wolverine claws?

I have heard of the stuff and read that it is good for making armor but I don't know what thickness the material is available and how it would be for shaping into adamantium claws. Seems to be good stuff.

Anyone? Bueller? Logan?

Reminds me of this stuff they used to sell in craft stores for kids years ago. It was a smooth plastic that you tossed in a bowl of water and heated for a few minutes in the microwave. You pulled it out with some tongs to avoid the water, but the plastic itself wasn't hot enough to the touch to burn. You could pull, bend, and twist it. It had the consistancy of taffy. You could even get real fine long strings of the stuff if you pulled it apart at the right speed and pressure. After a few minutes, it would harden up and go back to it's stiff plastic state. It was really neat stuff and even came in chrome!

It seems like you could use this Wonderflex stuff for decent cosplay claws that you won't have to worry about hurting anyone or them breaking, as they still have a good amount of flex to them. But for a good set of prop claws, I wouldn't recommend them. They don't take paint very well (Krylon Fusion may work), and unless you have them standing straight up (and I mean perfectly) gravity will eventually start to warp them.

Shoot an eMail to Brian Jeffrey of Dazian. Tell him what you are doing and ask for samples of wonderflex so that you can be sure it will work. It won't be enough to do a pair of claws but it will at least let you experiment. He will probably get the samples to you in less than a week. I think Wonderflex will work out perfectly for you. It will sag far less than you might expect, you just have to give a little thought to construction.

Be advised, the stuff isn't cheap.

Cheers,

JM
