Woah...Corey Haim dead.

I don't think it needs locking, but it HAS gotten off track. My opinion still stands even though Hendrix, Joplin and Belushi robbed the world of themselves by their actions. It is sad, but this is what happens to lives of excess.

And now, back on topic:

Toronto Sun

The City Of Toronto is paying for his funeral.

Good to see a LA resident have his funeral paid for by Toronto taxpayers </sarcasm>

And to top it off, it's private!!

So, the taxpayers can pay for it, but can't attend.

Not cool at all. Not at all.

Agree on both counts. Luckily I live just outside of Toronto. Outrageous. Although Toronto council did just manage to find a bunch of money.....Could have probably put it to better use or at least have the taxpayers have a say....

Yup.

That is a change from earlier this am.

Maybe the City changed their mind once they saw the backlash. Or it's just his mom demanding it, as was stated in the first article posted.

And, as an aside, that is one righteous mullet in that pic.

I would be ENRAGED if my city was paying for this (edit..)'s funeral. The ONLY reason this should happen is if he was a "John Doe" and his body was being cremated or if he was a truly prized bragging right born of their city,,but pay for Corey Haim???? Id consider raising hell bordering civil disorder over THAT one..

Ask to have it locked if it's YOUR thread, which this is not. I think it takes a lot of balls to ask to close someone elses thread simply because you don't like the way it's going.

Yeah, well I think it takes a lot of balls for some of the garbage people have been posting. If you don't like what I have to say, then don't read it and block me.

That knife cuts both ways.

I know, but like I said, if he doesn't like it, so what. I would have resonded better if you had been the one to say something to me since you started the thread.

Also, I have blocked a few of the people that have been posting in this thread because they clearly don't know what they are talking about and always seem to have some garbage to say about every single subject on the off topic forum.

I still think this thread has been derailed big time and something needs to be done about it.

Nah. We all have opinions on celebrity deaths/suicides like this. We really don't need to be babysat by Art and the Mods. The fact that someone has an unsavory opinion on the matter of this man basically killing himself, or of addiction as a "disease" does not make their opinions any less valid than the people who think this is a major loss to the world of celebrity.

Like I said, I completely understand their opinions and respect them. I have sympathy for Haim's family. My sympathy is waning when it comes to how I feel about him and his...well, basically suicide. Doesn't make me any less human. It doesn't make StreetJudge any less human for how he feels.

AJK001: I see that you have been a member here for two years. Surely, in that time, this cannot be the first time you have seen a thread on this forum go off into tangential directions. It happens with almost every thread. This one is no different.

The subject started as an announcement of a passing, and morphed into a discussion about everything else, as do many similar threads. Why is this so different ?

Has anyone inquired if this guy was on any donor lists? I could forgive this waste of life if a heart valve, or organ went to a deserving someone.

Most internet forums, especially the RPF OT is like a bunch of friends sitting around a table shooting the breeze. Conversations will inevitably evolve and morph. People will say things that get someone else riled up, but in the end, they remain friends. This is how people communicate.

What I find more troublesome than what anybody says is how some people react. I always imagine them sitting at this big RPF table and getting mad and either storming out of the room, or plugging their ears when someone they don't agree with speaks.

That is fine and I agree with that, except that some people find the internet very liberating, meaning they will say things that they would never say face to face. If you wouldn't say it to someone in person, then maybe you shouldn't being saying it at all.

I saw that long before I even joined the RPF and I have seen it happen on almost every single thread in the OT. It doesn't mean I have to always like it and my opinion is just as valid as anyone elses. For someone to tell me it takes balls because I suggested this thread to be locked, is the kind of OT garbage I've come to expect from certain members here, which is one reason I don't post too much in the OT unless I feel strongly about something. There are about a dozen or so members who post in just about every OT thread and if you post something contrary to their liking, they will knock you down within seconds, even if they don't know what they are talking about, which is most of the time.

An now, I'm going to storm out of the room and not play anymore.

I think everyone on this forum has stormed out of the room one time or another. I know I have. And I am also guilty of sticking my fingers in my ears and going LALALALALALALALA over a couple of members.

But again, we all come together as friends in the end, otherwise it wouldn't be the best forum on the net.

Yes. So what? It is the internet, and not your living room. People are allowed to be wrong as aften as they like here, the same as you (and me).

This IS the place to express whatever your point of view, and I would say that the odds of someone disagreeing with you, are about 100.0% The odds that at least 50% of the people will agree with you, is about 50% This should not deter you from offering your opinion, and let the world decide for themselves what to believe.

If, for some reason, you feel that a thread has crossed the boundaries, it might get better results to pm a mod, or hit the "report" button, if we have one. (I don't know) You can avoid the baclash of the other 50%

Dude cry me a river:lol You're on a blocking rampage because you don't agree with people on the forum...Then you whine that "something" must be done about it :lol You crack me up with your silliness:lol

On a lighter note...check out this south park episode about alcoholism being an illness :lol They hit the nail right on the head!! As always :lol
