Anyone going?

I will be going Saturday with Pops as Zombie Merle and Hershel and getting our picture with TWD guys.

Anyone have any experience with the photo ops? I read that it's kind of like a herding cattle type deal but hopefully we get at least a minute of facetime because of our costumes!

I know a lot of people who aren't going this year because of their new attitude towards "non-professional" costuming people/groups, as well as the ticket cost. I was hoping to go (I've been to the last 5-6), but when I realized it's more expensive than a ticket to a far better con (Dragoncon), and saw how draconian they seem to be this year with new pointless rules, I decided to patronize smaller and better cons in the area.

Not having been, what is their attitude with amateur costumes? It will decide if I ever want to go or not.

Well, they peace-bond EVERYTHING that they see coming through the door (I had about 6 bright orange zip ties all over my proton pack), but that was last year. AFAIK, WW was bought in that time and is trying to be an "elite" con, so they essentially threw out costuming groups (501st, Rebel Legion, etc) that had free tables since the beginning in lieu of bringing in "professionals" whose claim to fame is being top-heavy (Costuming groups can still pay the meager ~$300 for a single table, 2 chairs, and 2 passes, though). The ticket cost has skyrocketed, and they have some pretty odd rules for cameras this year. Considering it's still just a dealers' room, it's not worth the effort, IMHO.

That really stinks with the new rules. What I thought Phillycon needed was MORE fan participation, not less.

That said, if anyone wants to go, my sister is selling her tickets at best offer:

Selling 3 Philadelphia Comic Con Wizard World 4 day passes June 19, 20, 21, 22. Also have 1 photo Op with Norman Reedus for Saturday night. Also have Ralph Macchio photo Op for Thursday.
Philadelphia Comic Con Á Pennsylvania Á Pennsylvania Convention Center Á Wizard World Philadelphia
Would like to sell all them together but will go for separately. Apparently it is sold out. I bought the tickets in February and I am just way too busy to go this week. Dance recitals, College visits, work. Very disappointed but really don't want to lose out on the money.
Best offer I can email the tickets right to you. Or I have the printed out.

I don't want to be the go between, so if interested, you can contact her directly: lavrose@gmail.com

I'd love to go to retro con, but it's too far out. need that one closer to philly.

I went to one and only WW con two years ago. the line wait was ridiculous. 1 hour at least. no one knew what the hell was happening (only by sheer luck did I find out my Quantum Leap photo op had moved to 6). Got me in trouble with my guest... she had gone off to wander the room because the photo op line was so long, and THEN 3 minutes after, someone comes down the line asking about the ticket I had and moved me up. they wouldn't wait for me to call her back in either.. ugh. that pretty much ruined the day for me, and it didn't start off well either. never again.

shame too, rob is going this year.

I've never heard of Retrocon - what do you like most about it, Oldskooleffects?

I looked over the website, http://retrocons.com/ , and it looks mildly interesting, but I'd rather hear from someone who has been than just read the site to decide.

I'm a bit biased because I'm friends with the organizers, but even though it's a fairly new con, there's good attendance and a fair bit of stuff to see. I'm not one to buy autographs and such as I prefer to wander around in costume, so I don't really care about a sea of celebrities I can wait in line to "meet." It's a con run by people that have been to more cons than most people I know and that have a legitimate passion for retro stuff. It's more of a return to the roots of what conventions originally were before they became big business.

Did any of you guys get pics of the Dredd group there? I was one of the judges. We had a bunch of photos of us taken with random characters. If you saw us please let me know so I can get them to our group.

thanks
