WIP: Samurai Vader build

You should put a mount in the back that allows you to mount a flag in the back like you see in films like Ran & Last Samurai although I think that was mainly for rank & file samurai and Vader would be too high ranking of a samurai to be wearing a flag. You should make a fan with the Imperial cog on it since samurai generals always seem to be portrayed carrying fans.

I've been thinking about that actually... doesn't matter if it's accurate or not, it looks really cool! The challenge I'll have with that is making it work with the cape. The thought I had was cutting out a notch in the cape that the pole can go through... which might work, as long as it doesn't have to be too big of a notch. It also needs to come off the body enough not to get hit by the helmet.

I did something similar for a few members of my marching band when we played in a Mardi Gras parade this year. Even my band hat (not pictured), which isn't that big in the back, kept knocking into the pole of this flag.

Anyway... very low on the priority list, but it would definitely be cool looking.

You'd have to tilt the flag outwards a bit, I think, to avoid having it hit the helmet. But I agree that it would look very cool!

I'm really enjoying this build! You're doing an awesome job with it. :)

This popped up on io9 of a new Tokyo Toy Fair Samurai Vader toy and I, of course, thought of this build right away.
Enjoy!

Very cool project, and you're doing a fine job of it. BTW, Anthony Bryant, whose website you referenced, was a member here "Effingham" until his death earlier this year. His expertise will be very much missed, but his friends are working to make sure that his website survives.

Several years ago a Japanese company made a miniature set of Samurai Vader armor:

I am so excited to see this thread! I have been thinking of been of building a Samurai Darth Vader ever since I saw the Bandai Sculpture the other day. Yours is coming out really well so far.

That looks incredible, job well done. If I make one suggestion, I'd give the armor on your forearms and the graves either a coat of his black paint or give them a gloss coat to give them that lacquered look typical of Japanese armor.

Really nice work on this man. Looking forward to seeing some more up-dates.

Wow, I've been using the same site for my armour, I didn't realise he was a member here or that he had passed. Amazing site, everything you'd need to know. Thank you Mr Bryant.
