WIP:PKD Inspired Blaster

That's really cool! It looks like it's coming together well...I'm always really impressed by this kind of repurposed toys-into-props work. I will be keeping an eye on it!

Thanks for the encouragement. While the project is coming together suprisingly well, there are a few things I'd do differently if I were to do it again.

If I find a better base gun I'll take another shot at it in the future. And maybe I'll try at a slightly more accurate interpretation.

Looks nice so far! Man, I love that gun.
Are you a member over at Propsummit? Whole bunch of BR fans over there. :)

Very Nice. Please post pics of the finish peice when you are done. :thumbsup

All that's left to do is the bolt action lever and the pistol grip. I'll post pics as each of those is completed. Once the entire piece is done, I'll try some "beauty" shots, to get a better sense of the details.

And thanks again to everyone for the positive responses.

Thanks again (again).

Quick question though... I'm thinking about sculpting the grips out of something other than wood. Epoxy putty might work, except that it's probably more $ than I want to invest. I saw a product in the paint dept of a local DIY retailer called "Water Putty" and supposedly it dries "rock hard". From the container, it looks to be useful as either filler, or something for casting with molds.

Anyone familiar with this, and know whether it's suitable for a standalone scuplt?

If that's "Durham's 'Rock Hard' Water Putty", I'm inclined to say yes and yes.

I've used it a little myself.

Thanks. I guess you could call the project "fun", but it has turned out reasonably well for my first PKD/blaster/gun build of any kind. All that's left to do is the bolt action lever. Ideally I should have done that BEFORE the upper barrel was mounted. What's that they say about hindsight again?

Anyway, thanks again, and I'll try to post something once the lever is done.

Actually with a metal butt plate on the end of the grips it would look pretty close. Love the concept for sure.

Great work,
Andy
