Thought I'd share with you another among many of my current projects -

My Hardware Luke Skywalker Lightsaber -

At first the emitter was made from fender washers like the grip. However, my grandpa made me one for my Obi-Wan saber years ago so I just borrowed that.

The section below the emitter is a radial bearing.

Most of the top portion is made of hardware parts. The lower section, however...a whole lot of improvising there, I'll tell you :) I'm still not happy with the outcome.

My Grandpa also machined the pommel. I managed to bang it all up.

I prefer a steel covertec-style belt clip to the d-ring. Wow, this thing is HEAVY. The bottom half is aluminum-covered, but the internals are most steel and cast iron.

Lastly is the grip. It is simply rows and rows of fender washers, ranging from 1-1/4" to 3/4" diameters.

Weathering to come soon...

So what do you think?

Damn cool. Love the rough&worn look of it.
What are you going to build the control box out of?

Thanks :) I'm thinking I'll machine the control box...I'm not sure. I have two methods...either machining it from a block of aluminum or making a Graflex-ish box with aluminum flat bar. I'm not sure. I think the Graflex-ish box would give it that vintage worn-down look...hmm. What's your opinion?

The center of the saber looks thin enough, why not just go with a full on Graflex style clamp?

Here's the control box. I'm not completely happy with it - pieces that I cut to be symmetrical didn't turn out that way. But it's growing on me. It has the look of a weapon that's been damaged, field stripped, and repaired in the battlefield.

Thanks to everyone! So far I've spent about (2) weeks putting it together. Everything is from a scavenger hunt of pieces except for the emitter an pommel - my grandpa made those for me on an earlier Obi-Wan saber.
