Why is the MR Kenobi ROTS so expensive?!

We ALL knew it wouldn't sell well, and we LOST money on that one, with all of the development and tooling and marketing costs. It only sold about 900 units IIRC.

Seriously? LOST money? ONLY 900? How many would have to sell to break even? If the run had been set at say, 2500 pieces, how many of them would be just to recoup expenses?

I think the deal with the Obi ROTS is that is the closest thing to the Clone wars cartoon saber. The series on CN is great, and the saber is the same. I want one for my son for his halloween costume thinking I could get it cheap for about 150 or so loose no case...at one point they were REALLY low...

I like the ROTS vader..dont have it but I dont think it is a bad looking saber..

The Hasbro electronic saber (the basic version, not the FX) is available and can be modified into a passable replica or costume saber. Just replace the neck/winvane and emitter, and some general purpose accuratising, and you're set. It can probably be done for under $40, including the price of the toy saber.
