Why does there seem to be no Mod accountability?

Correct, they don't work for you.

I'm trying to figure out where the sense of entitlement is coming from!!?? You keep demanding anwers as though you're owed one.

It's a private forum. Period. The mods aren't paid; it's a thankless position, they perform a public service.

I can't imagine why though, when they have to eat this sort of **** for thier efforts.

Look, I've tangled with different mods over the years, but I'd say things run rather well these days.
I'm pleased with and appreciative of this groups work.

Give 'em a break. I swear, if some of you guys spent half as much time trying to build something as you do with these McCarthy-esque interrogations you might have something worth contributing.

I guess the staff doesn't work for us.
Why the secrecy guys?
Who is paying the bills these days?

Rylo, the mods may not be paid but I paid money for the hosting just about every time I was asked.

The mods wield the power over the forum in total. There is a price for power and here I think it should be openness. And I believe we have been promised that time and time again.

So if we do not "own" the forum, who does?

I'm demanding nothing, asking is more like it.
"McCarthy-esque" really? WTF man?
Truth is, yes it is a private forum, and I'm a member of it.

This community has been around longer than the current staff, and will still be here long after some of them have grown up.

Well put Rylo.

This is simply the last gasp effort by a small group of folks who have *****ed for YEARS about the way this board is run. No mod has been good enough and they are all in conspiracy against them.

Just compare the list of names posting here (Rylo excluded) with the denizens of DrS OT forum, where they consatantly rag on the goings on here. Banned members STILL complain about not being here and at the same time comment on how lame the RPF is. And continue to lurk as sockpuppets.

DrS has gone as far as saying he doesn't even collect props anymore, so why the ***** here? Explain that Doc.

And my comment here will spawn yet another round of personal attacks over there. Just you watch.

I think the answer's already been given multiple times. Here's what I get out of it.

1) I think the "ownership" of the board has become more of a collective stewardship than anything else.

2) It seems the mods make a collective effort to resolve issues as they arrise in an effort to avoid any rogue moderation.

3) Nobody really owns the RPF but there is a body at work who serve as unpaid custodians and they promote from within.

I don't really see that the issue is with that. People seem to want an infactic answer as to who owns the RPF, while I think the answer has been given time and time again.

I think some people struggle with the simple fact that this is a private forum. It is not a democracy and the mods are not elected. Whenever the owner passed it on, the board formed it's own government that continues to evolve.

Regardless, this is a private forum. People are simply invited to join if they agree to abide by the COD and nobody has to stay, otherwise.

Seems simple to me. Sure, I don't like everything that happens and wish a few things could be different, but I think the system is about as dialed-in as it can be.

I realize I am a guest at someone elses BBQ. I just try and chew with my mouth closed and not break anything.

Of course, this is just my read on things.

A question for you, then.

As with any party, if you don't care for the host or you can't stand the music, why stay?

I'm curious.

Well, righty-right then..?
I appreciate your efforts. I really enjoy spending time here and - as the good Dr. - I've answered the call for contributions several times.
I don't think you need to (intentionally?) confuse the unpaid voluntary work required to keep the RPF going with the equally necessary money needed for server space.

I don't really see that the issue is with that. People seem to want an infactic answer as to who owns the RPF, while I think the answer has been given time and time again.
Apparently not to the satisfaction of all!
Honestly, you can't blame the recipient for not understanding whatever message it is you're trying to convey.
If we don't get it, sorry, try again.

Yes, well put. The question was - I believe - exactly whose BBQ we're at?

I'm curious.

Because i have an interest in props of course, how does that relate to the way the forum is moderated ?
When two staff members give two entirely different descriptions of what the rule on recasting is and are still unable or unwilling to now give a categorical answer on the question almost two months later this doesn't give credence to their insistance that they discuss all moderation decisions as a group.

A quick breakdown.

  • I see and report a member offering a prop to another member to copy which they openly say they didn't make and it's just something they bought off eBay.
  • Mod1 informs me that the rules only prohibit the recasting of members work so no action can be taken.
  • Not happy about that i open a suggestion thread asking that the rules be changed to prohibit recasting regardless of the original maker being a member.
  • Everyone seems surprised as me to learn only rpf members props come under the recasting rules, and agrees the rule should prohibit recasting of anyones stuff.
  • Almost 2 weeks later Mod2 answers the thread and states that the rules do prohibit all recasting.
  • I explain that this reply does not tally with what Mod1 tells me.
  • To date neither Mod has cleared this matter up.
  • So here we are 2 months later with still no agreement on the rules and still with a member openly offering stuff to recast and still actively selling and creating interest threads in the JY.

Incidently one of my posts in that thread was removed without any notice or explaination even though i asked why as i didn't break any rules.
So i hope this clears up my statement above that there seems to be a monumental struggle to get any kind of action from the staff here in what would seem to be quite clearcut and simple matters.
2 months and nobody can even be clear about what their own rules are ?

Oh well seems it's cleared up now by a third mod, the rpf dont mind someone recasting a non members work and have locked the thread, nice. :unsure

Perfectly put, Rylo!

In all honesty, when you have 5 or 6 guys scattered all over the world trying to moderate an Internet discussion board, the hardest thing to maintain is consistency. Heck, my wife and I have a hard time being consistent in dealing with our own kids, and we live in the same house!

The CoC mostly keeps us on track, but mistakes will be made on occasion. Good thing it's just a discussion board and not anything that is life or death! :angel Still, we'll try to do better. The staff is in a bit of transistion right now, as some of the guys are getting ready to retire, and some new staff members are being brought on board. They even brought me back in to help with this crazy time during the staff transition and open registration.

Posting a thread calling out the staff is not the way to get an issue resolved. As always, if you've got a question for the staff, or a complaint about the staff (you know who you are! :lol), feel free to PM another staff member. It will be addressed in the staff forums and someone will get back with you.

As this is the Tech Support forum, this definitely is the wrong place to discuss this. PM me if you have any other questions.
