Why does there seem to be no Mod accountability?

I had a thread a nose picking drivers (that people were contributing to, mind you) that got closed down.

No politics, religion, sex, profanity, fighting, nothing - "LOCKED" no explanation either. I figured I would chalk it up to "whatever". But it seems there is more going on. (?)

I guess I should just talk about Star Trek or Terminator or Swine Flu and "move along...."

Doc, as ever, you are hitting the nail right on the head. Yes, it is a private board, but some of the shift in moderation is getting downright weird.

I didn't understand that either.

I am out of the country so my time here is limited lately. The biggest issues I see is that:

1) I have no idea what the mod/admin rank structure is. Nor do I know how to find it out.

2) I see threads go on for weeks where it is clear a person has been wronged yet the guy doing the wrong is not even brought to task by the mods.

2)a. How often are the mods even on line? Could it be there are too few of them? Or could it be they have lost interest in the board.

3) Some threads get shut down for no reason at all I can see. In the old days at the least the mod who shut something down would post in the last position why it was closed so there would be no mystery. What happened to that?

4) Why can people not get ahold of the mods? It has never happened to me but I see time and time again how a mod can be next to impossible to find.

I'm on here just about every day. I will rarely shut a thread down and most of the time if I do, I'll consult with other staff members before doing so. I too thought SS had different rules, but it now conforms to the global rules of the site. If you want a list of moderators, go here: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=759

Well, like I told Montagar, the enforcement is sometimes heavy handed and sometimes nonexistant. A prime example was the "Where is summer?" thread.

Although a couple of posts were removed from that thread, it was actually only temporarily locked for 20 or 30 minutes to sort out a different, but related issue. I thought that it would only take a few minutes to get things squared away and re-open the thread, but it took longer than I had originally anticipated. That was my fault for not getting it done as seamlessly as I had planned.

I know it has not been very long since my questions (well, except for the op!!!) but none of this answers the general questions of why the moderation is either heavy handed or non existent or not explained.

It would be very simple to avoid almost all of these if the person who locks a thread or deletes a post explained why in the thread when it was done. I am not saying a detailed exp but as little as "thread locked, violation of TOS" or "post removed, 'flame!'" would be enough. But thus far we get nothing at all.

I agree. Anytime anything is moderated at all, there should always be a well documented explaination of why, by the person(s) that did the moderating.

Nice try but who are the admins again..?

Seriously, and I am not trying to be cute as this is a serious complaint of mine, some one or two of you are the real power here and are above the rest of you. Who is it? Even a small company will tell you with out fail who is in charge.

Clutch, if I have a problem with you, who would I complain to?

Doc, I am placing money on Brian Babich as admin. We should run a betting pool.
