Why do so many people think Star Trek: Into Darkness was bad?

If they were going to insist on saddling us with the Botany Bay storyline, instead of Khan, Cumberbatch should have been THIS character:

Cumberbatch even LOOKS like Joachim. Then they could have panned over the cryo-chambers at the end and shown Khan still sleeping in his. Also, they should have been all placed in a newly built containment facility on Ceti Alpha V.

Come to think of it, I'm just going to imagine that Cumberbatch was, in fact, Joachim, and was just lying about his identity to protect Khan.

Ok, I've got to admit, that probably would have been a better idea.

I remember when Benicio Del Toro was first rumored as the villain - and everyone was denying that it was Khan - and thinking that he would make a good Khan. Cumberbatch was a great performance, but an odd casting choice for sure.
