Why all the hate for James Cameron?

he has a rather bad reputation for having an attitude that is both volatile and stinks, he hardly gets interviewed anymore as his reputation preceeds him.

i think people do have to understand the pressures of such high profiles sometimes, jet lag, tiredness, the want to get home or to a bed after pulling long hours. were all human and we all to a degree have done the same where we clearly dont want to be interested....................that said tho he was one guy and with all that going on an no one else noticed it would not have hurt him to sign it. but as soon as the name calling starts then thats where both parties become aggresive and simply the pestering or the hassleing becomes to the point of saying it so everyone can hear you to make a scene. its the fans that make him the money afterwards but with his flilmaking comes a huge amount of stress as he has to keep a large amount of peole happy (investors, banks, actors, extras, film staff....endless list of responsibilty). altho it didnt look like people were breaking down the barriers to get to him.

what may be missing in the video is if he was following or hounding cameron through the entire airport after collecting the baggage, its feasable cameron saud hello to him and was nice, but the fan decided he wanted more as cameron is clearly ignoring him outside - would be nice to see the before stuff as it is almost like the fan has maybe pushed cameron too far and his making a point outside of a vid to make cameron look stupid on the internet

WRONG! It is a courtesy, nothing more, the celeb does not owe you squat.

Believe me I have hung out with Jimmy, George, and Walter of Trek TOS and you should see some of the shennagins they had to put up with.

Secondly...IT'S PART OF THE JOB TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS. At this stage of anyone's career, he is now a public figure and chould act as such. Sorry I have met WAY too many high profile celebs that have been all to curtious.

Don't hate the guy I just think he's an overrated writer and director who isn't very original and focuses too much on the technical side of things.

He does know how to get the collective into the theater so I can't fault him there.

Sort of true. It is a "courtesy" that these celebs do "owe" fans. Meaning that today's celebs know full well that a portion of their lives are "owed" to the public.

Their "job" does not stop when the cameras stop. Celebs all to often use their personal outings to stir up publicity for themselves. They know that they are there only because of the fans, therefore they "should" sign autographs when the fan is polite. I don't believe that they HAVE TO but they SHOULD.

IF they don't want to, be polite about it.

Not hate for the man, but definately hate for that garbage of a story that he provided with "Dances with Space Smurfs"

There are many movies he's done I will continue to support. That is until he goes back and changes things with CGI claiming he wants to show us his original vision.

It's honestly refreshing to see a public figure act in an honest way these days. To trick a cocky autograph hound (or worse) like the jerk he is something I derive pleasure from. In these modern times public figures try so hard to project bland not offensive personas it's nice to see someone just being themselves whether or not a camera is pointed their way. James Cameron is just in a position where two dumb kids with cameras can't ruin his career.

I'm no apologist either. Titanic and Avatar are terrible movies but the guy's got balls and integrity in the personality department. Whether you like that personality is definitely another matter. :)

I think you need to take that video with a grain of salt. Between the initial brush off, which wasn't polite or impolite, it just was, and Cameron getting fed up with the guy there is a cut in the video. How am I supposed to know what was going on between those two points?

Also... the "poor guy who just wanted to get an autograph for his brother" is a known autograph dealer. How do you think he managed to know when and where Cameron was going to be and happened to have an Avatar poster on hand? He is no different than any other paparazzi, only he trades signatures not photos. As soon as the video hit TMZ the poster was on ebay with a BIN of $1,199.99 under the heading of "AS SEEN ON TMZ THIS IS THE A-HOLE INCIDENT POSTER THAT WAS NOT SIGNED BY MR. CAMERON".

And what kind of a fool would pay that kind of money for such a worthless piece? Hopefully no one.
Admittedly, I've bought autographed material off the net before, who hasn't? But before this thread, I've not once ever considered where it came from. Like most things we buy, we buy them because we want to, often at the cheapest possible price, almost always with complete disregard for the manner with which it came to be.
Take something as simple as chicken eggs. Personally, I don't have the luxury of a healthy bank account to buy all my groceries that originated from the best grown conditions. Do I buy the twice as expensive fancy eggs popped out by chickens that have been living on an exclusive chicken resort who have lived a life being fed nothing but the most nourishing blend of scientifically formulated caviar? No. Would I like to? Yes. On the other hand, do I buy the cheap eggs that have been harvested from cage dwelling birds living in their own filth? No, 'cause that's just wrong. But, I do buy the moderately priced eggs from the free range farms where the chickens are allowed to cluck around all day being all chickeny without a worry in the world getting on with all their chickeny business.
Seems like a bit of a tangent I may have just drifted away on :lol, but the concept's transferable.
Next time we buy an autographed piece of memorabilia, are we going to ask the seller if the signature was obtained from the most comfortable of conditions from the celebrity's point of view? Of course not. We just want that autograph and we really don't care how it got there, so long as it's genuine we're happy.
Has anything I've just written have anything to do with anything we've been discussing? Probably not. But, I just began to type and before I knew it I'd thrown up some verbal diarrhea all over your screen...

Thanks for reading :lol

By the way, yeah, that guy in the video was a ******. In the words of Chris Crocker, "Leave Cameron alone!".

I take all this with a pinch of salt.

I have never uderstood the whole idea that these guys 'owe' the fans something. They dont.

JC made a movie, we payed to sit in the cinema seat and watch it. We enjoyed it, or we didint. Its a simple business transaction like any other.

When it comes out on DVD/BR we choose whether or not to buy it. If we do, we get to have more enjoyment for our money.

They put out a toy...etc etc...

Jc doesnt owe me or anyone else anything. It would be very nice if he was courteous to me to if I ever asked him for an autograph, but if he wasnt then thats that.

It was signed by most of the cast as well, I think it already had 7 signatures on it and this guy was trying to finish it off with Cameron's. If memory serves me correctly, it ended up selling for around $700.

I am sure there are legitimate reasons to dislike Cameron, I just don't think this incident is one of them.

I really can't hate the creator of the terminator, I like all of his movies, I love some of his movies, Avatar was a good movie not a great like Terminator or Aliens but pretty good, and that it didn't win for best picture was a crime, what it meant for filmmaking made it deserve the award, that being said I dont need no celebrity or government telling me how to live...It makes me sad if he really has become some hippy kook, I enjoy the commentary on the Aliens blu-Ray he sounds okay...what happened to him?

Yeah? Based on my life experiences, I can tell you that I think crafting a piece of entertainment that I hope an audience will get some kind of gratification from is pretty different from me getting paid to cut granite, for example. The latter is a simple business transaction, to me: I was fairly compensated for my time and labor. The former... producing commercial art for consumption and enjoyment... may at the end be considered a simple business transaction, but it is not ike any other. :)

A small distinction perhaps but one I felt needed made late on a Sunday while I get ready to bring joy to the people again in the morning. :lol
