Who or Where is DangerRuss66?

I have no involvement at all with this whole issue, but I find it kind of amusing that this is the third response to the that thread, from way back in 2005:

The guys a scammer! You'll never see your money again! Muhuhahahahahaha!

Actually, Russ is a great guy. He lives just a couple of miles from me and we have drinks together often. For those that remember when he did his last run, it took FOREVER due to his supplier taking his sweet time, but when the gloves were done, oh, BABY! I love the pair I got (a couple of years ago) and they're stiil holding up beautifuly and only look more weathered. Worth every penny. On THIS run, the gloves (I believe) will be even more accurate (not sure how this is possible!) and made with higher quality leather. Those who were on the fence the last time because the project took so long soon regretted it as when they finally came in they sold out in record time. Russ recently got a promotion at his job so he spends very little time on the RPF anymore but I promise that this project is still moving forward. If you have any questions, please e-mail him and he will most likely answer in 24 hours or less.

Wow, is my face red. That is a joke that went sour in a hurry! :lol
Before you guys drag my good name through the mud, let me explain where I fit into this. Yes, Russ is my friend. He's one of my drinking buddies. Granted, we don't spend as much time together as we
used to but we still hang from time to time. Let me make it clear.
I have NOTHING at all whatsoever to do with this project.
Matter of fact, I had to buy my pair fom his first run at full price, just like everyone else. The last time I spoke to Russ about how unhappy the RPF was about him not delivering was about a year and a half ago. I told him I was tired of defending him and I meant it. At that time he asked me to not get involved and to stop defending him that he would handle it. He also asked that he and I never discuss the topic again. Being his friend, I agreed. So I'm stuck in the middle per sey. Guys, he KNOWS how I feel about this as I have voiced your concerns to him on more than one occassion. But he dug this grave and he will have to get himself back out. That's all I can do. Please do not involve me in this issue.

I apologize if it seemed like I was trying to drag you into it. I was simply chuckling that your joke had, three years later, become a reality. No offense intended on my end, man!

No problem brother, I know you didn't mean it like that. But yeah, if I would have seen this coming I would have never made that joke. :redface

Hey FJ

DO you still live close to Russ?
If so, how about a nice hint in his direction, that there are quite a few people still waiting for him to come through with his project ;)

I´d really appreciate, thanks.

Markus

Gloves? What gloves?? I kissed my money away on this one a long time ago. But this creep should be banned from here - no question about that.

Russ is a classic example of "really nice guy that got in over his head and didn't know how to deal with it." I've met him in person; he came by my house once while on a business trip. It's unfortunate to see this project run him off the board - he was a very well respected member here before this screwup. I have to wonder where the money went... Did he send it to the glovemaker and never receive a product in return? If that's the case, I can understand how he may feel screwed, but if you're heading up the project you take responsibility for the vendor you choose to produce the things - it's no good to pass the screw on to your buyers. I imagine he just didn't have the cash flow to pay everyone back and the lump sum seemed overwhelming, but if that's the case the right thing to do would start a list and pay each member back one by one as you can swing it.

I'm sure this won't help anyone who lost their money feel better about the situation, but I'd imagine a nice guy like Russ has been carrying a guilty pit around in his stomache for a few years over this.

If any of you would like to try and contact him, I don't have his number anymore but his AIM screenname is TekeAV8R. He is signed on pretty often, but it looks like he's away right now. The last time I sent him a message was probably a few months ago, when the glove thread was last bumped - I sent him an IM letting him know it was on the front page of the RPF. He didn't respond, so I don't know how much luck you'll have. May be worth a try though.

I spoke with him last Halloween. Russ stated that he felt a great deal of frustration over the gloves falling thru. I didnt ask what his intentions were as to repayment etc but I do know that he was upset as well.

He is a really good guy. Ill shoot him an e-mail and see if hell post his intentions here.

If he really is a good guy, just have him come here and fess up to what happened and make a list.

We've all seen people get in over their heads. Just communicate. Is that so hard. MAN UP!!!!

I'm not out for blood.

But I find it facinating that the self-appointed prop police have ridiculed and called down the thunder on so many, yet not this guy.

Just goes to show you that the personal grudges that exist, cause that kind of nonsense. Like all the AA BS. Personal agenda rather than a real sense of good for the "community".

Waiting myself. I wrote my cash off long ago, but I honestly think that if there is no response by Russ by the end of next week (even that is generous!) then let the ban come into effect. Obviously he doesn't care if he's banned, as he's never here anyways. Enough is enough, response or ban. I's a pretty easy solution....

Mic,

We have tried to facilitate discussions with him in the past for repayment and/or providing the product to those who are owed.

Since the resurrection of this issue (as we do have more than one issue we are working on at a time with approx 5,000 members), the staff is reviewing the information from the threads again which may result in action. That is not to say this issue is not important, it is, and has gone on long enough by my own assessment.

Stay tuned and thank you for your patience,

Bryan

Thanks for taking a look at this.

I'd rather see him coerced into coming back here and getting on with it then a ban.

It's not like he was a habitually money grabbing scammer. He just got in over his head.

Heck just coughing up the patterns or plans to someone else willing to handle a run would be cool with me. I'll even do it.

This sounds good to me! I want my GLOVES! :cry

This reminds of the guy who was making the ESB muzzles around 4 years ago.

He had done several runs, but during the last one he got laid off.

He had intended to go back to his old job and have the muzzles machined there as usual, but then decided that the rpf was a "bad place". And since he was "a good guy", he'd just keep our money and unregister himself from the board. :unsure

I have sent him an email, and will encourage him to re-establish contact... He has always answered my emails over the years in regards to this situation and hopefully he will continue to do so...

I'm sure he is just stuck between a rock and a hard place, but if anyone thinks banning him will help, I have to question that.. It's not like he is an active member and banning him will simply make it harder for him to re-establish any communications and serve no other purpose except maybe for the scarlet letter mark...

Hopefully I will get a reply to his email and some communications channels can be opened, as I see it the deposit amount was small and I'm sure the total amount was peanuts in the end hardly worth the tarnish and trouble it has brought everyone...

I am the only staff representative in this thread and I have not said the word "ban"; I believe that word has been used by other members in this thread, so I will suggest that we tune down the rhetoric as it does not get us very far.

I have reached out to Russ again to try to faciliate an action plan, but others have mentioned that four years is quite a long time and I believe that the members who sent their money deserve to hear what he intends to do to rectify the issue.

I hope he does come back and try to fix this situation, because it is a mess and it has gone on long enough.

The ball is really in Russ's court, it is his choice.

I say we give him 3 last chances..... one last chance to pay the money back, one last chance to make the gloves...one last chance to give over the patterns...one last chance to work with another prop-maker to...oh..4 ok 4 last chances.
And then of course one last chance to answer the charges here...ok 5 last chances. But that's it.
