Who is this "Sidkit" and why don't I own his Mal Reynolds pistol?

Well, I just ordered the Scout blaster...
I saw that on Ebay and wanted it but missed it...
I didn't realize it was his :lol

Cool Nebulizer too.

Couple of questions for those with one.

1: The 'working' trigger. Does it just have play, or does it click?

2: Would there be a way to but a rod through the barrel for extra stability rather than just the set screws and glue?

It is a pretty piece, and I am really thinking of purchasing.

The trigger has a click action to it.

I plan to drill and tap the end of the barrel and put a thru hole in the "frame".

I also don't care for the set screws and glue approach.
But this is such an easy fix; and really, such a non-problem for most; that it shouldn't influence a purchase choice.

Far as hardness, the metal "seems" as hard as a Denix LeMat.
It is NOT like a lead cast miniature figure of years gone by.
If you smashed it into a Starburst (the candy, right?) it would make a Mal Pistol shaped dent in the Starburst.
Just covering all the bases.

Proof??
When I can point to most every part of Sidkit’s Blade Runner Blaster and show features that are unique to my model!!
That there are two unique featurs to my cocking lever, three unique features to my bolt, seven unique features to my pistol frame, two unique features to my Styer receiver, three unique features to my rear cap and with his earlier version, unique features of my grips and grip frame he used to use, but there are now newer ripoff copies off the Hartford model…
Yes I have no proof………….
Like heck I don’t, I even got copy’s of some of his parts and thay are made off mine, I do not call someone a recaster with out the proof.
I even got a email when he said he bought resen casting from someone in the states of my model.
No proof??
Right.

That's right. And the pictures you posted to prove it showed nothing of the sort. Please, please, please post others if you've really got the proof otherwise it's just a rant.

On another forum someone has both yours and a Sidkit and the Sidkit is larger. How can a recast can be larger?

What Sid had told me is that he based his first gun off of your model and some stunt guns under the impression with his limited English that yours were all cast off of actual gun parts and screen used parts (i.e. not your original parts). After he found that out he retooled his parts and also made them all bigger to handle the shrinkage of the metal. His parts are now all bigger than yours and no longer have the tells that his first edition (resin version) had. None of his parts are off of the Hartford. Remember he thought you used all actual gun parts for guns he had no way of getting a hold of legally in Italy. He only wanted to make the most accurate BR gun he could and did not understand the issue you had with copying something which he felt you copied yourself to begin with. Maybe technically he can be called a "recaster", but it was not his intention to put your model in rubber and sell them cheap on ebay. If the first Blues musicians had stopped everybody that copied them, we would not have Rock and Roll. I completely respect all the research and work you did with your guns, but you can't expect to keep living off of just that, when the market has changed drastically since. I hope your new guns blow Sid's out of the water.

So he admited he used castings of my model under the excuse I ripped off the studios or that they were unchanged from real guns??

So I am mainly RIGHT???

But now has only made them larger (???) somehow and eventhought all the parts are still almost all the same ones as mine it is OK??

And yes I finely took time and compaiered the grips and they are not from the Hartford run and as I can not find pictures of MiM's early model so I can not compair them.

Check here and look at all the pictures. The last folder is of his current Metal model and STILL has all my special mods as part of the build.

OF course after a few sandings and filler paint jobs and removal of all numbers and markings and recasting his reworked castings into metal a lot of detail has been lost, but they still quack like a Duck.

I took apart your V3 and his parts and compared them side by side. He used your Ideas for sure, but the unique mold "tells" and other details are missing. You made it very clear to the world that your modifications would be the same as any the original propmakers would have done. By copying (not recasting) those mods he was in fact in his mind making it truer to the original prop. Sorry to say, his casts also fit together better than yours, which would be proof he did not recast off of yours.

Would definitely be interested in seeing a tutorial of these changes! :thumbsup

Go to www.racprops.com and read my nearly 10 year’s old articles on the making of the model. These articles were done DURING the making of these models and posted before the first sales!!!!

I got him to send me a few parts; the cocking lever was cast from mine, as were the others.

My milled and trimmed upper frame is still being used as are others line the bolt adn real cap and so on.

Check my comparison photos:

http://www.racprops.com/C&S%20vs%20Restoy/Master%20Small%20Parts1.jpg

IF you can not see the facts then you’re blind.

In these pictures I show a real part, my changes and sidkits direct copy of my parts.

Yes after many sanding and paint jobs tooling marks are covered up, but these features are unique to my version, not part of a real gun.

"Remember he thought you used all actual gun parts for guns he had no way of getting a hold of legally in Italy. He only wanted to make the most accurate BR gun he could and did not understand the issue you had with copying something which he felt you copied yourself to begin with."

So in his research on this gun he missed all the links pointing to my nearly 10 year old articles on my site covering all Phil and my efforts in making this??

He knew enough to hunt up a C&S or Coyle prop but not find my site and articles??

Do you really believe this with so many boards pointing to my site for nearly 10 years he MISSED ALL OF THEM????? But found my name and the name of C&S???

I gave him a chance; after all I too have been misled to the ownership of a model before.

I too have bought a model from one guy claiming he created it to find out once I when to market I had been taken, and bought a recast model.

BUT here I asked the real owners, what they wanted, I was prepared to stop, or pay for the “rights” to go ahead.

And I did indeed make payment to pay for those “rights”. (In one case and stopped in another)

I also got more careful buying things. Note this was back in the 80s before the internet.

All Sid offered was I could keep the US and he was to own and sell to all of Europe and the UK and Japan.

With a model ripped off my model.

I asked him to stop, to no good.

He has never offered any kind of settlement or payment.

The sad thing is many or his other models seem to be his own work, as does the Mel’s Gun, (I do not know of anyone doing such a model…) and he does do good metal castings.

Unlike Scifi models who not only rips off the original models, then rips off the customer with junk castings. Up until Sid those have been the kind of rip offs I have run into.

So lets call a recast model a recast model and then justify it by saying I want it and it is cheaper than racprop’s so there, and be done with in.

Something like:

“Sidkit offers a recast copy or the C&S in all metal at a cheaper price than racprops can, so buy it with full knowledge your buying a recast and that in so doing your harming racprops who did all the research and real work to bring this model to fandom.”

That is all I am asking for. No more claim I did not prove my case, that it is not mine, after all androidandy said “What Sid had told me is that he based his first gun off of your model and some stunt guns”

There it is in black and white.

I do not think I have made any claims about the Mels gun.

My claim is about the Blade Runner blaster model.

I was pulled into this by: micdavis " You get what you pay for.

Sidkit has also been accused of recasting Coyle BR parts. Although I don't recall any definitive evidence to suport such a claim. "

AND Darkknight0667 "I've seen both the claim and the "proof" and can say that it is far from definitive. And, in the absence of "definitive proof", an accusation is just that"

So I responded.

Completely off topic, but why are so many people posting in white text so that it can't be read on the default theme?

No, you didn't. But you replied to my post asking about stuff for the Mal pistol, not the kit Sidkit supposedly recast off yours - which I think your pictures show pretty clearly that he did, imo.

That's why I felt the need to clarify, as I felt your response wasn't really a reply to what I asked.

Sorry to hear that you got copied... that just sux. :thumbsdown

Probably because they use a darker skin... or whatever it's called.
