Who introduced you to science fiction?

As a kid watching TV of the seventies both new shows, re-runs and movies.
Reading H.G. Wells.

I cannot remember what moment it was, it simply was just there and I loved it at very early age. And all this was linked with moon missions on TV as well. It all gelled together.
Building models of all the sci fi and aerospace subjects I could.

As a kid watching Star Trek and TNG with my dad. Then later watching Star Wars, Alien etc...

Sweden in the mid-seventies: a country with two (2) government-controlled tv channels. TV1 for news and serious business, TV2 for "lighter" programs, entertainment, music and such.

In 1976 Space:1999 aired on TV2. I was instantly hooked. A mix of Star Trek, classic Flash Gordon, Jason of Star Command and various space-themed comics followed. Then, along came Star Wars...

Star Wars and Terminator for me. I had a vhs of the first Terminator as a kid (like around 6) and literally wore it down pretty quickly because I always wanted to watch it. :)

For my first 10 years of my life, i watched nothing but SW, BTTF, Superman, ReBoot, read Transformers books from the 80's, Jules Verne books... Is Power Rangers sci fi? LOL! Not sure which was first but that was all i wanted as entertainment.

Wow. Thanks to dvd's and the internet, not much has changed hahaha! There's something about impossible situations coming to life on screen that grab my attention.

Oh yea, and Terminator!

I watched the landings on the moon live as a 4 year old and got hooked on Star Trek on TV and read heavily by age 5 reading the Star trek novel paperbacks at age 5. I started reading novels by age 6. A great time to read sci-fi with Niven cranking out books and with so many other authors.

The combination of seeing the reality of the space program and the hopes of what the future would bring had me hooked.

Since then, reality has been somewhat of a let down, but the science fiction has been very good. :)

I don't know if I could say any one person introduced me to it, just that all of my earliest memories of favorite books and tv shows are all sci fi or fantasy. As a kid with an uncle close in age, he and I used to watch Star Trek marathons when they ran. My favorite authors back then were Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov. Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes, Star Wars when I was about 7, The Hobbit, Conan the Barbarian... I just remember being immersed in it.

Still am. :)

I'd say Star Wars first and then BSG. My dad pretty much likes the same things I do. When I was about 10 he started letting me watch Terminator, Predator, Robocop, etc. He loves Forbidden Planet. Growing up we always watched Star Trek TNG, DS9, then SG1, Atlantis. Heck I still go over and watch some stuff with him. Well until SGU was cancelled.

This was a bit of a tough one...

Sure I watched reruns of Star Trek in the mid Seventies (easily my first exposure to sci-fi). Sure my Parents took me to Star Wars in the summer of '77. Sure I've seen every Star Trek film in the theater...

But as to "someone introducing me":

In 1987 while in the 11th grade I took an optional English class in which we studied "Science Fiction and Fantasy".

The main books we read were "The Hobbit", "I Robot", "1984", "Brave New World" (the classics). We also discussed modern science fiction films and how they fit into classic sci fi themes.

This included a discussion about the film "2001: A Space Odyssey". Many insights were shared. I had first seen the film as a child, and had watched it multiple times as a teenager...

But after this particular day in class I finally "got it" (or at least I "think" I did- it still has its mystery for me to this day). It was eye-opening! From that day forward I was "hooked" on what science fiction was meant to be! :thumbsup

So Mr. Parkin, my 11th grade English teacher introduced me to science fiction! :D

The one thing that always made me scratch my head was that my grandma liked Star Trek. She never showed any sign of interest in any other scifi except that show and maybe the twilight zone and outer limits but mostly as dad was watching them.

The Bookmobile came by school in the fifth grade. I saw a book with a cool cover, two kids in red suits crossing an alien landscape with a three eyed creature. It was Red Planet, been hooked ever since.

MoonaLisa didn't hurt either.......

For me, my earliest TV memory is Fireball XL-5. So I guess Gerry Anderson. But I went ape-**** over Lost In Space. And, like Larry, I LOVED Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea (I used to have that yellow Seaview toy as a kid. Absolutely loved it.) And Batman. And comic books. And Disney movies... man it was fun being a kid...

As best I can remember, it was my older sister. One day in the early or mid 60s I found her watching a Godzilla movie on tv, so I joined her. Soon after Star Trek premiered, and we watched that together as well. I was too young to understand it fully, but I liked the adventure/action aspects and thought the Enterprise was cool. After that, if it was sci-fi or horror, I watched it.
