Who created the Disney trooper armor?

I seem to remember a post a couple of years ago when Disney/MGM Studios upgraded their Japanese George Lucas Super Show stormtrooper armor, and someone here was responsible. I am NOT sure about the new helmets, however.

Anyone have any info?

But I thought he did the Stormtrooper costumes for Disney, Florida and had nothing to do with the Japanese Super-Live thingy? :unsure

Actually, the ORIGINAL Disney/MGM trooper suits were supposedly the ones used in Japan, before someone here (?) was hired for complete new sculpts and suits.
These photos of the original Japanese suits are from the starwarshelmets.com page (Please let me know if you want me to pull the links!! No foul intended.)

You can see how this garbage makes the Rubies trooper deluxe look good.

Yup, it was me,.... well, actually I was one of the key people at my day-job, but it's a group effort. However, the armor shown above is their old armor, what we made replaced that armor. Yes, we also did the new helmets, the new clonetrooper armor, Queen Padme's head-dress, all the new Vader armor and helmets, Darth Goofy, Donald Stormtrooper, and I did several blasters for their parade.

The armor shown above was all purchased from the Japanese Super-Live Adventure (of which we did a most of the Willow armor, including General Kael). Disney bought all of the armor when the show went belly-up, and then eventually replaced it with our new stuff.

I dunno... i think I like the Disney armor better than the Rubies... it looks more Disney costume...ish to me rather than the... :sick:sick:sick:sick:sick:sick:sick:sick:sick that the rubies does to me

still... its not the best :)

I didn't mean to indicate that YOU created the crappy looking armor in the above pics, just that this was the ORIGINAL armor from Japan before you came in and replaced it.

If anyone wants to see Scott's work / the "new" Disney/MGM armor, check out these youtube vids:

My family went this past January and my son was one of the Padawans. I got some good pics of the costumes.

I remember someone in the past year or so bought a set of the original Disney armor off ebay. Can't remember if they belong to the RPF.

Blewis,
No offense taken, I understood you were talking about the old garbage-armor.

Bobatrek,
Those are some great pictures. I love seeing our armor. I must have personally made 100 stormtrooper helmets by now. Made a ton of Vader helmets too.

Scott

Yea, I remember waiting in line at Star Tours, and the TK's came out, and I was like, "wait a second, the armor looks alot better then last time I saw them.." lol

Is it true that they are also using Sci-fire/hyperfirm E-11's?

Also, forgive my lack of knowledge, but which version Vader is that? I am assuming ANH?

Well, that Vader is all kinds of mixed up. Sort of ANH point on the front of the dome, but softened so it looks more like ESB. Cape chain from NO accurate version (but more like ROTS), ROTJ chest box, but no chest box straps that I can see, so more like ROTS, and really strange hybrid belt boxes. That's just from a quick look, and I'm no Vader expert.

And the troopers are generally ROTJ but the mouth on the bucket is painted ANH.

Talk about artistic license!

Rick

Looks like Vader needs a spacer at the top of the facemask to prop it up a bit on the wearer's head.

Accuracy-wise, it's all sorts of wrong....but from a typical fan's perspective who is not familiar with the nuances of each film's costume, the Vader doesn't look half-bad. I've seen a lot worse!

And the Troopers look fantastic....especially compared to the old Disney armor!

Dont forget function. A ton of the 501st guys sacrifice accuracy for the sake of walking. The troopers from clones to tks, Vader and Chewy and the characters "look" the part and can function (ie move, get around, run, dance, interact, etc) incredibly well.

they arent really the best looking , some of their eyes are mesh, but you gotta understand those guys get on top of buildings , run around the park, etc. They have to be able to move, take falls, etc in it so its more 'stunt' armor then anything. but yeah, its not canon to a specific movie or anything, but it looks a million times better than what it was...

Not anymore. The blasters in the above pictures were made by the Disneyland Art Department in California and are rubber stunt guns cast off of the Master Replicas Stormtrooper E-11.
